quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 03/02/11) pics heavy

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

guys i need help..

1. What type of paint should i use as a primer for the helm? (red oxide, enamel, acrylic like those)

2. What colors should i use as the final coat?

3. Does anyone have any ideas for the hinges?

thanks for the replies. Hopefully someone could help me :(

I use a "filler" primer, it will fill in small scratches and pin holes, just spray it on let it dry then sand it a bit then repeat. It builds up and fixes minor imperfections, as for colours you may have to just pick what looks as close as possible to the right colours, also you should use the same name brand paint for everything from primer to colour to clear coat, if you mix paint from different manufacturers it may cause your paint to do some funky stuff :eek

thanks sir kagn.i did find a can of epoxy primer,i'd try it on this helmet. I need to invest on an air compressor in the future. :cry

good job!
thanks ma'am! have you posted DR's marvel pics here yet? Everyone should see that. :lol

anyway, here are the pics Jordan requested.

PS:The backplate is still a WIP. :)

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

Looking great! I started my pep last night. It is soooooo detailed. Spent a few hours on the faceplate alone.

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

yea it was so detailed i modified some parts of the pep. When you start the crown part, start at both sides to make it a lot easier :)

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

I've used binder clips in the past to hold all 3 pieces together of my Iron Man helmet.. but the resin always seems to seep into the cracks and sticks all 3 pieces together.

I've also tried to harden before with binder clips but once again it always seems to leak into tiny areas and thus melding all 3 into 1 piece. I really want to keep this in 3 pieces during the resin/hardening and rondo/sanding/primer stage as I want to mold and cast a 3 piece out of plastic.

What route did you take. P.S. I have pics of my old Iron Man helmet that I started, didn't finish and sold.

Line the edges you want to keep separate with some vaseline petroleum jelly, but just a little, just enough so the resin cant bond to the paper

i think i saw that helmet of yours sometime here. It was coloured blue am i right? well i also used binder clips. well what i did came from someone here who did the same thing,i think it was finhead(blurry memory sorry), just resin the outside first. after the 1st coat of resin the pep should've held its shape. Then i just remove the clips,if the resin binds the clips to the pep i use a scoring knife to separate them, same goes with the parts that stick together during the resin process. oh btw hang the helmet on a clothesline or something high so the resin won't drip inside, but make sure the helmet won't collapse during the drying process. I usually check up on it every 5-10 mins while it's drying. Or if you'd like, while the resin is still jelly-like in form, try to remove the clips. I've done that several times. Hope that helps :)

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

Thanks Kagn. I'll do that. Also thanks Quovadis... that is not the helmet I mean. I did another that made it further along. It was quite smooth. Sold it to a fellow member on here.

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

been a while since i posted an update. anyway i bought cheap revolver toy guns that looks like the minigun but a lot smaller. I'll try to install them as the arm guns, hopefully it'll make the suit a lot beast-ier,a little mod im trying to implement. hehe.

here's the helmet so far. played with leftover paint from my IM suit to show pinholes and small imperfections i have to fix. any tip/s on how to fix them? :)

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

Brilliant! Great work Gerhard! Cannot wait till I'm at the point you are.

Do you think you could do a video of the helmet? Perhaps with you putting faceplate on and off? I'd love to see how smooth and well fitting they are. You don't have to be wearing it.

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

sure thing. i'll do it first thing tomorrow after school. I'm having midterms atm and it's so d*** hard. hehe. oh btw sir Jordan,do you have any way or method to have the backplate detach/attach? I used magnets but i think they can't hold the weight of the rondo. :lol

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

Hey,

I plan on molding and casting mine in plastic so magnets will do the trick for me... but for you.. hmm..

If you embed enough rare earth magnets I am sure they will hold the weight.

Or perhaps you could rig up some sort of latch system or lip that it hooks into and then the magnets would simply be there for backup.

Re: quovadis' warmachine attempt.(update 01/18/11)

thanks for the minigun tutorial sir kagn, now i have a basis for my minigun prop to start. well it's a good thing sir jordan mentioned the vid he was asking before it totally slipped my mind! hehe. here's the vid. oh kindly ignore the audio. it was bad. haha. i was outside the house taking it so it's kinda lousy. i trimmed the outer lips of the faceplate thinner so it slides and opens up easier.YouTube - 27012011007.mp4 and no update for the helmet today..still a lot of pinholes to fix :wacko
