Questions about silicone mask

2 questions,

Im going to use Smooth-on Ecoflex 30 for a silicone mask and want to know how much to use ?? I know someone will ask how big is the mask so Im just going to say a typical size full head mask like the CFX of SPFX mask. So how much have you used z??? a gallon ??? 1000 grams??


2nd question is if I build up a sculpture on a armature and then take it all off and melt it down does it weigh the same as the silicone ???

For me Hellboy masks, I go through about 2-3 lbs of silicone per mask. YMMV.

Doubtful. Clay is pretty heavy.

GE Type 1 silicone caulk. Close the tear with a needle and thread, then caulk the inside of the mask and spread it thin. Make sure it's Type 1, and not Type 2 (which has additives in it to prevent mildew). Work in a ventilated area; that stuff stinks!

The weight would probably be way off BUT find the VOLUME of the clay and match that with your silicone.

To keep from having to start a new thread I figure I can ask here. How do I make a 2 part mold for making a silicone mask? And, once the mold is made, do I put the silicone into the molds and close it around the lifecast head until it's cured or is there another process?
To be honest it would be great if there was a tutorial on here for doing silicone masks, but I have not been able to find anything yet.
