Questions About Bond Films that You Have been Afraid to Ask SPOILERS

Re: Re: Questions About Bond Films that You Have been Afraid to Ask SPOILERS

Actually come to think of it, DAF was the last one before Moore started. I wonder if the early 70's was just the era for know-it-alls?
Could have something to do with the screenwriter of DAF, LALD. ;) I have a hate / love thing about ol' Tom M.

I watched 'Diamonds Are Forever' again the other day.

I never realized before but in terms of style, it's quite surprising that 'DAF' followed 'OHMSS' considering that the tone of OHMSS seemed much more serious, even as a spy film.

What's the genereal consensus on 'Diamonds Are Forever'?

For me?

It's the first Bond film I can say I don't like (To clarify, I like them all, but there are some that in comparison I don't... If that makes sense).

If you're watching them in order it sticks out like a sore thumb compared to it's predecessors. It lacks the classy feeling, it's very much a "welcome to the 70's".

Bond is too old and unfit. Connery's performance, although fine, is phoned in. Tiffany is downright annoying for most of the film (although very attractive). Blofeld is... Ugh, not Blofeld (really? DRAG?). The special effects are GOD AWFUL, downright embarrassing when the laser does it's work.

Overall a flop that set the tone for what was to come.

On the bright side Wint & Kidd were fun to watch. :)

Very different portrayal than how they are in the book but a fun take.

Glad you're as much of a fan of it as I am.:lol

I hate to speak ill of any Bond, but yeah, it was quite silly.

Blowfeld was Henderson from YOLT right?

The part where Bond kicks the cat always makes me laugh.
And Connery landing in the chair in the washroom.
The breaking out of the Techronics facility was funny. Amazing he knew just to go right through the wall and he would be outside:lol
Good thing it wasn't thick concrete.

It has its moments but it ranks pretty low on my list of Bond movies. Connery is on auto pilot and had gotten pretty chubby (for James Bond I mean) and it looked as if they forgot all about Tracy in the last movie.....

I know it's his own fault for not sticking with the series, but I would have LOVED to see Lazenby return in a direct sequel to OHMSS, out for revenge. Lazenby should have done two movies without any shadow of a doubt.

Some highlights:
M is particular annoying with "behind the desk burden" attitude times ten.
I just noticed "Mr. Bean" took a role in this movie.
Stockholm syndrome which later used in TWINE.
Exploding pen - mentioned in Skyfall (?)

That was a gun pen, not an exploding pen. THIS is an exploding pen.

Your ignorance could easily jeopardize Her Majesty's government! Effective immediately, your licence to be a fan of this franchise is revoked and I require you to hand over your entire James Bond collection.

I agree. This movie would have to be VERY different though. And quite honestly, no Bond girl to speak of. Much like QOS.

I just watched FRWL the other night (awesome! :thumbsup), I'm rewatching the Bond films in order (still haven't started the books!) but my local rental place dosen't carry the old ones so I have to wait on Netflix snail mail. In FRWL when the train is suppose to make an "unscheduled stop" at 6pm, but dosen't. When they pull into the next station the clock reads 5:30, is it suppose to be the next morning? A time change from border crossing? Or is it just an oversight? Just curious :)
Monday is Goldfinger!!

In my defense:
1. I did put a question mark.
2. Unlike Moore, I don't know everything on top of my head.
3. Between that pen and the black pen with Union Jack, I'd remember the latter better. Both are mightier than a sword.
4. Both ended up with a BANG = explosion.

can I still keep my collection please?

On separate note:
I like the Dalton-property of a lady. Thank you for sharing that.
I found couple of things a bit annoying:
1. Gray hair (might not be too much problem)
2. Short hair (this, and a bit messy/uncombed)

I found this interesting picture too (to show that gray hair is still okay)

I always assumed it was a time change but never really gave it much thought. IIRC they were traveling the right direction for that to happen.

FRWL is an awesome film on every level. :thumbsup
