Why use plaster? Fiberglass+ resin would be ok

Plaster is not a good idea, it WILL crack and break. You'd be better of using fiberglass or Bondo.

Sorry i should have said it's a cardboard helm, the plaster is for forming the dome,i've fibre glassed and resin the inside,i was just thinking of putting resin on the outside to harden then plaster, actually it's wall filler,to fill any inperfections then sand ,then another layer of resin to harden ,then paint.

plaster isn't a good medium for something like that. it will crack and chip easily, and is very water sensitive.

i'll echo what others have said: bondo good :)

Is this for display or to wear? My friend did the same using cardboard and pollyfilla but his was for a master to take molds from. if you are going to wear it i would definately recomend Bondo or another auto body filler or even fibreglass first then Bondo. Another method would be to pour resin over the outside like a reverse slush cast Either will be a lot stronger and will take paint better as the water based fillers are very porous as well. My dredd helmet was from one of his pulls and its just resin ( easiflo 120) and then i fibreglassed the inside for added strength.
