Question for PS3 gamers

How can I forget about Metal Gear Solid 4? It's almost like an interactive movie....actually here's another one, Heavy Rain. It's like a pick your own adventure novel. And really one of the more mature themed games.

The God of War trilogy. GOW 1 and 2 come in a combo pack. I can play those over and over.

Another vote for Uncharted.

And a recent download from the PSN store... Plants vs. Zombies. Good lord it's addictive.

God of war got old after the first one. Gears of war is Xbox only. And PvZ is addictive buts gets very repetetive after the first play through.

I'm tossing my hat into the "Uncharted" series ring and the "Dead Space" games as well.
Medal of Honor WAS a hard game. I preferred COD:Black Ops, MOH kicked my butt even on easy (I still beat it) but COD:BO wasn't bad even on hard.
I'll be honest, I didn't like GTA4 and my dislike has EVERYTHING to do with it's controls. I'm about five missions from the end and I just can't bring myself to finish it.
Red Dead Redemption is an amazing game. If you haven't finished it yet, do. The ending is worth it and once the credit's finish rolling, you still have work to do.
Little Big Planet 1&2 are VERY addictive.
ANY/all of the Lego games are good.
Transformers: War for Cybertron was VERY good. Certainly the best of the Transformers games.
Infamous and Prototype seem to get compared fairly often BUT Infamous is a FAR better game. Prototype seems like a rushed ripoff of Infamous.
I'm looking forward to the new reboot of Mortal Kombat.

Netflix (I believe) is an American only movie viewing (streaming) service. You should have the BBC iPlayer and possibly a movie viewer or two.

Fallout 3 is awesome, Fallout New Vegas is much more old-school Fallout and even better.

Got maybe 300 hours in on 3 and almost 100 in on New Vegas so far.

If you like Mad Max Roadwarrior kind of stuff, this is an awesome universe to play in. The variety of ways you can interact and solve problems with people or be stabbed in the back is much richer than many other first person RPG's.

Bioshock 1 was awesome mostly because of the atmosphere, very linear storyline. But if you like James Gurney and Jules Verne style retro-future aesthetics, it is magnificent.

Red Dead was a Rockstar game so you can't go wrong with their other hits like GTA 4 if you enjoyed it.

Dead Space was pretty much Martian Gothic redone in better graphics and less scary. The whole thing was way too predictable for my tastes. I liked the ending though. Haven't played 2 yet but I hear it's better. Just imagine you're Ash from AoD while you're playing and you can spot everything from a mile away. "Look a 'dead' monster in the hallway. It's a trick, get the plasma cutter." Or "Bet you $10 when I fix this broken part of the ship some other part in another area I haven't been will break."

Mass Effect is good. Kind of a halfway mark between more linear stories like Bioshock and really open ones like Fallout and GTA. The best part is the choices you make in 1 effect the storyline of 2. Haven't beat 2 yet myself. Spent more time scanning planets than actually playing the game. I miss my car.

You know Sigma as soon as I saw you'd posted I was like ah completely forgot about Fallout :lol.

I know what you mean about games stressing you! Dragon age Origins is good for story, characters and RPG, Dragon age 2 not so much....I adored Fallout 3 and all the dlc, but found New Vegas a wee bit vulgar and not as polished....also, the Deathclaws are nearly impossible to kill in New Vegas unless you've got SERIOuS firepower! How about Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion? I know it's old, but it's simply the best, most involving game i've ever played.

I used to have a PS3, (well....i've had 3 of them....) I really just used it as a BD player, i didn't like the controller, didn't like LBP, looked forward to Killzone 2 for ages only to be crushed by the awfull controls....

Seriously, get a 360 and we can all play together!!!

Rich

I'd highly recommend Dead Space either 1 or 2 or both, but then.. that might stress you out too much, it definitely did for me.

Otherwise play Bayonetta, fun for the boys AND .. well just fun for the boys

looked forward to Killzone 2 for ages only to be crushed by the awfull controls....

I agree that the controls as they were at launch sucked but they've FINALLY patched it with COD style controls and KZ3 comes with alternate schemes right out of the box.

re: "controls"

I bought a PS3 because it can use a PC-keyboard&mouse instead of a controller.
you just plug and play. it recognizes any USB keyboard/mouse, with no setup.
(GG, SOny!)

unfortunately, the actual game-developers REFUSE to write games that can use this feature.
of all the titles made for PS3.. there is only ONE game*, which allows for the keyboard/mouse on the PS3.

every other developer has chosen to reserve this control scheme for the PC version of their title(s);
they REMOVE this functionality, for the PS3 release -- regardless, that the system was DESIGNED for it;
they WANT us to buy the (non-castrated) PC version instead.

---> I'm only happy to oblige.

I never buy games for the PS3, if I can help it. I always buy the PC version, if its available.
I won't use the PS3 as a gaming platform, as a general rule.

(which kinda sucks -- Sony makes this wonderful piece of hardware, designed to appeal to ALL gamers..
INCLUDING the keyboard/mouse generation..
..and then, the publishers castrate sony's intentions, in a conscious attempt to 'cattle gate' customers into separate herds -- keeping "PC" separate from "Console", just for the sake of it)

(I can't get behind that).

* Unreal Tournament FTW.

its the only game you need for PS3 -- the only one that uses the system, as it was designed to be used -- with a keyboard/mouse, as Sony intended.

Every Other Developer, places a cart before this horse -- they limit the game's functionality within the PS3 system,
out of nothing more than corporate greed.

Yeah fallout 3 and New vegas'll keep you busy for a long time. Especially if you get the Fallout 3 game of the year with all the extra missions on it. I'd say mass effect but i think that series is xbox only sadly. I'd be downloading old NES games off the PS3 store lol.

Both Uncharted games are a must - incredible games, great stories, character...

Dead Space 1 and 2 (I've just started 2 and it's great) are superb late at night games.

Borderlands is as big NO NO! You will NEVER see anyone, answer the phone, talk to another human being that's in the room ever again until you've reached level 50, and found as many Eridian weapons for a complete load out. :D

I also love the Bioshock games, and Red Dead Redemption is visually astonishing.

as many others have said go with fallout NV and borderlands. also if your a fan of RPG give dragonage a go

im busy getting everything in order ready for Monday surgery day, so today i picked up Borderlands, Assassins Creed 2 and NHL Hockey 11

il let you know how i get on thanks for all the advice guys

Mass effect 2 is on PS3 now. They did that because Mass Effect 3 with be on both platforms.

@Supa good luck for Monday. :thumbsup

Knowing that you like Red Dead and not most of the FPS types, I feel we'll have similar tastes and you'll enjoy my suggestions. The best game I've EVER played is Uncharted 2, and even the Game of the Year edition should be cheap by now (extra skins and levels for online play). It's nice to play Uncharted 1 first, but not necessary.

Mass Effect 2 also has a deep deep story, array of characters, and high replay value. Then there's Batman Arkham Asylum. And finally, Metal Gear Solid 4, which held the position of my fav on the console until Un2 came out. Another slightly different suggestion is Heavy Rain, a very story driven game with several combinations for endings. It's the reason why I bought a PS3 in the first place.

Whatever you go with, I hope you have fun!

Anything the pthers have said, and if you have finished RDR, you can get the extra download 'Undead Nightmare', where John Marston fight Zombies in the same world, with the same characters. It has a kinda short story mode, but I'd say it's worth it.
PS: Cougars and bears are a lot worse when you have to hit them in the head to kill them :p

Some great suggestions so far. One I would strongly echo, that I think I've seen suggested only once, is Elder Scrolls IV:Oblivion. Absolutely spectacular game; I played it on PS3 instead of PC, and loved it. Tons of stuff to do, great storyline, beautiful music, and very lush graphics, especially given that it's a few years old. Pretty sure you can get the GOTY edition for $20-30 now as well. I think I've talked myself into pulling it out tonight after work! :lol

Incidentally, if you're a golf fan and enjoy golf games, I'd recommend the new Tiger Woods. Haven't spent a lot of time with it yet, but finally getting to play Augusta National is worth the price. :cool

And good luck with the surgery! :thumbsup
