Question about refinishing knives.

Hello,

I recently purchased a knife from a catalog based on the shape of the full tang blade. I want to modify the factory knife in a more 'sci-fi' way. However, I'm not so sure how to get the finish off of the original so I can get the look I really want for the blade. I'm talking about the writing AND the camo pattern if possible. I don't want to just paint it as the paint will come off with repeated use and I'm hoping it ha some close ups, if you know what I mean.

Here's a photo (sorry about the web cam!):

I would use a wire wheel on a grinder just enough to remove the camo and then finish the blade like I wanted. If you want a high finish, wet sand with fine grit then polish out either by hand or with a buffing wheel and rouge,

Sweet! Thanks for the tips guys. This knife is bad ass by the way. Very hefty and well weighted. I just went out in the front yard and stuck it in a tree three times in a row from 15 feet. It went in deep!

I'll post pics when I'm done with the mod.

Please be careful when holding the badass kinfe that went in a tree 3 inches against the rapidly turning wire wheel. Accidents happen so fast you rarely even know whats happening till the event is over.

can you tell me where you got the knife from?
I have been looking for one of those S&W homeland security knives for a friend of mine that insists on buying mine. I have looked for one for him but I can only find the black version .
thanks

I am a Rothco dealer, so I purchased this one directly. I think you can search Rothco and find one. Or, if you like I can get one for you no problem. PM or email me about it if you like. I might be able to beat the standard prices out there on this, too.

Is that the titanium powder coated version? I've been looking for one of those for a while (my friend has a green one and now I want one :) )

If its powder coat... grinder wheel will be best. Once that stuff gets scratched it comes off relatively easily. You might even get away with using a grinder bit on a dremel (if you don't mind chewing up a couple bits...)
