Question about painting rubber cowl

I was wondering if it was possible to paint over a rubber cowl? What would the steps be and what materials?

Plasti-Dip seems to work best if it's a latex cowl (best if you wash the cowl first). It'll give it a nice glossy finish

Aren't the colors limited though? Is that the stuff you can use to coat tool handles? I guess if this is just jet black, that would work. Which cowl is it?

It is a black batman cowl, just a cheap one that needs to be converted to nigh owl from the watchmen so it needs to be made brown.

You would have to mix the colors your self. Plasti-Dip comes in Red, Yellow and Blue. You would have to make brown.

No experience mixing colours with Plasti Dip. Have you considered spray latex?

You have to be sure that the cowl is latex though.
There's a possibility that the cowl is vinyl and you'd need to use a different kind of paint becaause the plasti won't stick to it.

I would try to stain it with India Ink, wont peel off like plasti dip.

Personal experience with the 92 Returns cowl, huh? Me too.
I actually had "moderate" success, but I first had to strip the paint from that cowl, then I gave it a good rub with sandpaper. That helped the Plasti-dip stick. It looked decent, but not as good as Plasti-dip on latex.
