Question about a version of Luke's ROTJ saber

I have a question the Luke Skywalker lightsaber as seen in ROTJ.

Now, we know there were three main versions of the prop as used in the film -
a) the Hero version which was handled by Vader on the gantryway on Endor after it was handed to him by an Imperial officer; this is the version most-manufactured by MR and other companies;
b) the "Version 2" which is similar to the Hero with that "cylindrical knob" coming out the top of the emitter BUT which has a Graflex clamp with circuit card similar to the TESB sabers; a messy, peeling black paint job; and a knobby knurl coming out the side of the saber body which is NOT present on the Hero prop; this also the last saber manufactured by MR; and lastly but not least --
c) a third version which has a flat emitter like Obi-Wan's EpIII and ANH sabers but with rings like the Hero and V2 props; it most closely resembles the V2 ROTJ saber but without that stickup knurl coming out the emitter head that both the Hero and V2 props have; this is most likely the "shared saber stunt hilt"; it was shot out the top of Artoo's dome when Luke saluted him and Luke grabbed it with the Force after he flipped back onto the skiff...

Has anybody manufactured the third saber? There's a diagram of it in one of the official Star Wars guidebooks and the blueprints are widely available on the web.

Lots of people have made the shared stunt version.

The one shot out of R2's dome was something else. I believe it was all resin and did not have an emitter hole or control box.
IIRC - A supposed original was sold on eBay awhile back.

Close....... (experts, please correct me if I'm wrong)

Hero: Smaller diameter saber (1.25) Mark used during duels on skiff. Later had more detailed control box added, used for Vader gantry scene (not the same saber handed to him, that was the V2, shot back in CA).

V2: Original Ben fighting saber from ANH. Seen on Marks belt during ROTJ, handed to Emperor, handed to Vader, sits on chair, etc... 1.5 diameter, original black paint peeling.

R2 Saber: Resin copy, no emitter detail, not seen elsewhere in ROTJ. Multiple versions fired to get good shot.

Shared Stunt: Used as dueling saber on DS, used as practice saber post ANH. Refurbished post ROTJ, no blade and hole in emitter (no nipple).

Resin stunt Sabers: Seen in several stunts during film, cast from V2.

Stormpath made the shared stunt.

Stormpath is all sold out now IIRC, but Anakin Starkiller I believe is preparing to do a run of these.

Here's my Stormpath (I still need a D-Ring):

The resin copy of the ROTJ sold by Elstree a while back (which claimed to be the one shot out of R2) was a fake.

Thanks for the info. I was unaware. I know Elstree is very questionable. How was it proved to be fake?

FB

The prop that Elstree sold was a resin casting of the hero saber (the type seen at the MOM exhibit).

However, on a close up of the real saber (from a HD copy of ROTJ) I could see that the saber has a neck groove in it that is not on the hero saber, meaning that the resin saber used in the shot was a casting off of the Sharded Stunt saber.

Plus I believe a few resin castings of the Hero were given away as gifts POST-production. This was was probably one of them...or a copy of one of them.
Regardless, it was definitely not screen used, and theoretically couldn't even be considered production used, as it was never intended for the production.

Sumatra,

Yeah, that's the one I'm talking about!

Very nice-looking! It seems a bit more balanced than the other two versions.

Is somebody really preparing to do a run of this one? I might be interested in getting one if it's not too much trouble to customize it and make it look more screen-worthy.

I'm not a craftsman, per se, but I think I can handle spray paint and sealing with gloss or flat clear coating. I definitely know I can put a circuit card in a Graflex board holder! :lol

Thanks for all your replies and information, all of you! Very pleasant exchange and nice learning something new from here. :cool

According to this thread it looks possible: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=53153

I'd be happy to build/paint one up for you. I only charge for materials and a little bit of my time. I accept cash and trade. Here's a thread I started about it: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=52780
