QMx Secures Complete Star Trek License for Collectible Lines

As other's have said, I'm going to wait and see. Also, as has already been said, the TNG Comm badge has been done by almost everyone in the world.

I'm not big into the Ships, Keychains and whatnot, even though some people really like them.

When I see decent priced Phasers, Comms and Tricorders from the movies and shows that are NOT toys then I will be impressed. Except for a few offerings from MR and eFX, NO ONE has ever done them, except for high priced offerings like Rodd.com and Starland.

Agreed. Looking for affordable replicas please! :D

--------------------

.... I'll just keep on getting what I like made by QMX from eBay & the likes.

I did try & buy directly from their website, specifically to test the waters before going on to larger stuff.

For a replica Serenity money-pack, they quoted me shipping at $84.47 via 1st Class International, & $95.20 via priority :lol

And yes, I did write to them, sent them a PM on here questioning this. And yes, they did see it.

Totally ignored.

....

Edit /add - Having said that, and in case QMX reads this thread and communicates with us mere mortals (sorry, I couldn't resist :lol), I ask - is that SGA Wraith Dart model ever going to be produced ?

Hey Alan ;-)

Mere mortal to mere mortal, if the PM came though here to me directly, I never saw it ;-(

That said, I'm sorry no one got back to you and, re: shipping, yep the international shipping can be a right pain in the you know what. ::grin:: It comes down to the fact that we're a manufacturer and don't do as much shipping as other outlets, hence, higher rates. We don't add anything to the rates, either, so that should give you an idea of what we're looking at.

That said, absolutely get it from eBay or local sellers. In the end, we want you to get the item and not pay a fortune to get it. If you PM me directly, I may be able to point you too a retailer in your general area.

Again, sorry no one got back to you. As others mentioned :;): We don't always have the best news, but we do try to respond and take care of things.

GGD

My heartfelt sympathies go out to all Trek fans on the RPF.

Birdie, one day I hope to change your mind ;-)

I wish I could explain all the behind the scenes stuff, but I can't. Same for Asp9MM who's been around the block with me before. LOL

I can tell you that we do our best, sometimes things take more time than others and sometimes things happen that make it difficult to make an item we showed a prototype for previously.

But we've also shipped a lot of product this year. If you look at the site, overall, there's a lot of cool stuff that got created this year.

You and Asp are both waiting for something that hasn't been offered for sale yet. So I know it feels like we don't make items we announce, but we get a heck of a lot made. ;-)

As I said, one day I hope to win you over. I'm a Pollyanna like that ;-)

So are you saying that for a box of 24cms X 12cms X 1.5cms, weighing a couple of hundred grams, USPS charges an individual / general public (those are the highest rates) $84.47 via 1st Class Mail International, & $95.20 via Priority Mail International to Malta :confused

Let me assure you that it is utter nonsense :lol I have had literally hundreds of packages sent from the US to Malta via various USPS services over a vast number of years.

First of all, the difference between 1st Class Mail and Priority is astronomical, not $11 for rates like those, and those rates your system quoted are for something 10 times the size and at least 20 times the weight of the Money-pack box.

Let me stress once again at this point that I love your products.

However, you are unfortunately showing me that your reply is based on absolutely nothing but an on-the-spot invented excuse.

My point is, I don't understand why you promote sales via your website directly, when the message you are giving me is that you really are not interested in even looking into an anomaly that has been pointed out by a potential direct customer.

Then, something like this 'hurts' me :

Savvy consumers should keep an eye out for Web specials and exclusives by signing up for the:

QMx Insider newsletter http://insider.quantummechanix.com/
QMx on Twitter https://twitter.com/QMxInsider
QMx on Facebook Quantum Mechanix (QMx) | Facebook"

Much as I would love to sign up etc, merely to feel a direct part of your company and success, why on earth should I, if I know the postage costs are absurd and your interest in my direct business means nothing ?

I stress again, you have great products, but your Customer Care and PR leaves alot to be desired I'm afraid.

Yes, I will continue to buy your products from retailers etc, but I will never feel a 'connection' or sense of loyalty to you.

What a pity :(

Hi Alan,

We actually had to switch off USPS for a number of reasons and are now using Fed Ex, which is what my reply was based off of. However, I do agree that the shipping costs are high. It's not a systemic anomaly. It's the rates we're billed. It can be expensive when it comes to international shipments and we do understand it's not perfect.

As for the web specials, my guess is that your prices from other retailers, when you get them with a shipping method that is more cost effective for you, are going to be better than it would be if you ordered directly from us with a higher rate.

In the end, it's definitely not our intention to upset a customer. But we are also working as a manufacturer and so we don't have the shipping power or systems to offer the same kinda of shipping rates larget retailers might have. It's one of the reasons we sell to other retailers. That way, we can get the item at a cost you feel is better.

Either way, we do appreciate your comments and, while we can't fix the issue at hand, we can certainly look for ways to help you find a solution that works for you.

My QMX Firefly stuff can be seen at my collection link below on page 3. I have been very happy with what I have gotten so far and am working on the BDR Serenity Ship.

QMx GGD is always on the boards explaining what is what and unlike cough,..some others,...not to be mentioned,...EFX, she always addresses comments head on.

When I was ordering, it clearly quoted USPS, and specified a choice between 1st Class International, & Priority.

Anyway, no worries & thanks for your replies :thumbsup

How bout qmx puts out the promised Doctor Who products first....

Believe me, we'd love to. It's not lack of desire. We're working on it. But sometimes it's a long way from prototype to final product.

And I say this as a fan and someone who used to sell this stuff for a living and wonder why things took longer. (I recall waiting for a few companies to make stuff for years).

Now that I work here and have an idea of what the challenges are, I understand the process much more.

One item doesn't get tabled because another is made. Different factors can delay a product.

I know you want a sonic, Frosty. Believe me. ;-) And if I could make it happen, I would. But this isn't a one man building operation (okay, we did have a situation where we can have the prop builder make a limited run, but the costs are evident) kind of project for us. We have to deal with a lot of things that others might not. And those things can cause delays.

It's tough to be on this side of it, truthfully. Because I see both sides and I want everyone to be happy. But I can tell you that we all want to see the Who items made. That's the best I can do for now.

All of that said, I think I'll try and let this thread be about Trek now. ;-)

Those must be the Fedex rates QMx GGD was refering to.

When I was ordering, they were still USPS rates.

Anyway, I suggest you get the money pack from eBay :lol I only paid $12 shipping via 1st Class International for the money pack I bought after getting a shock from the Qmx website :lol I just wanted to buy direct, that's all.

Again, love their products & back to Trek :):thumbsup

i would love to see a first season Tricorder of TNG made for sure.

how about an Bluetooth enabled communicator badge?? eh?? that would be so perfect.

:lol Hehe, yeah and over two years later I've unfortunately been proven right and those hints of 'future' goodies have come to zero. And way back in July 2010 I promised that if I was proven wrong I would apologise wholeheartedly and spend wads of money on all the DW goodness you massively hinted was just around the corner. That stands. Yet still nothing is announced or planned, things are quiet in regards to DW props, and yet here on another new licence discussion you pop up with damage limitation statements and again you are still hinting something may happen and we both know that the licence is almost up and it's been stated by a prominent DW prop aficionado and BBC contact (so not CT) that it would definitely not be financially viable for you to bring out anything DW related for the masses within this period.

It's not that I don't want you to make stuff. Quite the opposite, I do, and I'd buy it. But I don't like being played when I know how things stand. It's not a case of believing that QMx don't want to put things out, it is just a case that I seem to know more about the machinations within your company and the DW licence than you actually do, which get's my back up when you lead us up the garden path with hints of something that actually isn't. It would have been better for QMx had you kept quiet back then, as now it really shows the company in a bad light. That's not the best situation for a rep to put their company in. And yet, you have. Sorry, but it is true and it's why we are so cynical now. People other than myself shouted 'vaporware' back in 2010 when the DW line was announced, and although QMx has an excellent reputation for producing quality items when they do release them. Their reputation for not releasing items is even greater, be that justified or not.

Seriously. Yes or No. Will you be releasing a sonic screwdriver or DW prop replica available to wider public within the next year? Paper props and other cheaply related piffle not included.

I'll take you at your word, but please, no political meandering around the bush with vague hints and hopes. Just a yes or no, or if you don't know. Say that.

I'd say I don't know. As to the rest, well, I can't address the issues you mentioned. I don't have that info, it's above my paygrade.

I can say, for myself, that I haven't been told they're not getting made. If I got that info, I'd share it.

::shrug:: I'm human. I do what I can to answer people as honestly as I can. Maybe that's the mistake or maybe I should just ignore the comments and let people be upset. That's not my nature.

For now, there's nothing I can say to convince you that no one has an intention to mislead. So I'm going to just let it go.

And if I need to come back here and say you told me so one of these days, I'll do it. But, as far as I know, today is not that day.

What he said, sadly. It's got to the point that I kinda pray that no upcoming licenses for properties I'm interested in go to QMX. That's not me being mean, that's me wanting to be able to actually purchase props that aren't made of paper.

QMX has Doctor Who and Firefly, two of my favourite shows, yet I own precisely one QMX prop, and that has a wonky barrel :rolleyes

Like ASP, I'd love to be proved wrong, but, hey, how many years have you guys been at it now?

Thanks for being honest. It's appreciated.

I'll not derail this thread any further than I have done and good luck with the Trek licence.

All the best.

JD

Birdie, the wonky barrel thing...that bugs me. We actually can do something about that. But, the rest, hey, I get it. I'm not trying to fight. I understand your POV. I just can't do anything to change it.

But the barrel, that I can fix. DM me with an order number and I'll see what I can do. ;-)

Offer appreciated, but don't worry about it, I actually fixed it up ages ago, so I should have said 'had' a wonky barrel :)
