QMX New Releases: Trek, Stargate, DW, WH13 PICS PG.2

Re: QMX New Releases, Trek, Working Zat, Doctor Who and More!

And how about the sonic's "vibration" function? Is it a better adult toy than prop? Honestly, whoever thought to put in vibration instead of sound needs their head checked, it's flat out stupid. But I guess we'll see what happens.

Re: QMX New Releases, Trek, Working Zat, Doctor Who and More!

Maybe (and hopefully) io9 was just being funny :p

I cannot wait to see the Zat in action!

Re: QMX New Releases, Trek, Working Zat, Doctor Who and More!

Ok, so I'm at comic con right now and got to play around with pieces, the working zat is freKing awesome, battery powered, pops up and retract with ease, the sonic screwdrivers look awesome, very smooth finish and awesome display, the farnsworths are incredibly cool, the idealized version looks alot better than I thought, I think everyone will be happy with it, I'll be picking it up, and the new enterprise and viper are SWEET, but way outs price range, I talked to the guy and the expected release for the zats are very soon, he said there pretty much ready to go.

I'll post pics tonite when I get to the hotel

Jarrod, your post is worthless without pics! :cry

Re: QMX New Releases, Trek, Working Zat, Doctor Who and More!

I just talked to the maker of the farnsworths, he's a really cool dude, fully aware of all the work that has been done here on the rpf, we went over the pieces, te idealized version is freaking sweet, it has a carbon fiber honeycomb material behind the black screen that gives the screen a incredible real world look, and comes with working light and movable buttons, he talked about the idea to weather the piece, and give it oxidized green look on the areas where the piece would be used the most, again, will post pics soon!

Re: QMX New Releases, Trek, Working Zat, Doctor Who and More!

Ok, here are the pics I could snag today, quick pics with my phone, you can check the photobucket link to to view them. I went over the sonic with the make, who also made the farnsworth, he went into great detail of the work he put into the piece, a great guy who really knows what he's talking about, compared the QMX version to the MFX and CT versions, and said that CT got it more right than MFX did and had alot of info to compare, I've seen all three versions and by far I can say this is the best of them all, but everyone has there own opinion so yea...onto the pics!

No, unfortunetly they wouldent take it out of the case, they only have the two prototypes on display, but I went over it with the maker and he explained the paint style, slide with button, ect. They even got the original manufactuer of the blue tip pice to make them for them, so there really going for acuracy, thats why there taking there time on that certain piece. They are going to enlarge the button alittle and make the slide cuttout alittle wider so its more screen accurate.

And what part of "vibration" is accurate? It didn't do that in the show and the prop certainly didn't do that. They seem to know so much about this prop... except for it's obvious feature that a $15 toy got right. I don't care that they got the same company to make the blue tip when they can't even make something SONIC have sound. Yet another lame attempt at this prop. :thumbsdown

The only thing that looks off on the new sonic is the end cap, it is too stretched out. I wonder if this is so it incorporates the vibration function. Otherwise it looks good.

Very cool...seeing the guts is pretty sweet, but I cannot wait to see it in action!

As for the sonic, hopefully people going to SDCC can talk to QMx and let them know that the cell phone vibrator is silly :p And go with just sound. Cool on the details of using the exact acrylic end though!

Another Sonic! Now which one do I buy...

Any ideas on the price point for this one? because, if its up there with CT's prices, I'll have to go with CT- because personally, a) a vibrate function? :confused and b) I don't give a stuff about the 'official license'.

If its- say £100 quid or less- and ends up making sound- then yeah, i'll pick one up. But no sound/or more than that- then they can forget it!

Any word if the same company is doing a replica of any of the other sonics? (Pertwee, Baker, Davison, Eccleston or Smith)

Will the Zat be available through the Qmx website or do I have to somehow special order one?

Thanks

I think the QMx Sonic is absolutely a thing of beauty. But CT's DOES make sound. So, even if I decided to pick one of these up (we'll see how the production model turns out... after all, look what happened with the MFX post-prototype) I'm glad that I'll have my CT as well. If anything, I'd stick the QMx on display and carry my CT around with me. Chances are, even if the QMx turns out 100% screen accurate (and with that same LOVELY finish) it will probably not have been built with the more rugged materials used by CT.

On another note, I honestly don't think the cell phone vibrator is a TERRIBLE idea. I think it's a pretty elegant compromise between on-screen sound and on-set accuracy. Let's not forget, after all, that there is at least a noticeable "buzz" when a cell phone vibrates. And the tactile nature of a vibration seems as if it would add some realism to its use. I bet the Doctor's vibrates a bit when he uses it.

And for other Sonics... While I wouldn't venture a guess on pre-2005 stuff, my guess would be that CT will remain the only source for the Eccleston Sonic, as that prop is nearly 5 years past and the Tennant prop is a much more refined version of the same design. I don't think it makes a lot of sense for the BBC to pursue that one. I do think they'll likely move forward on the Matt Smith, though. I don't see how they couldn't. This past season has been publicized and advertised more widely (at least Stateside) than I've ever seen from Doctor Who. For the first time, the BBC has released Official Doctor Who iPhone Apps, even. My bet is that they're already hard at work on the Smith but, being quite a bit more complex, it probably wasn't ready for SDCC.

Is there any word on what the price for the Zat will be? Any hopes that it will be within the 1000s range?
