QMX BSG Personalized Dog Tags?

Just wondering if anyone has seen or purchased a set of Quantum Mechanix Battlestar Galactica personalized dog tags, and if you'd care to offer an opinion regarding the quality and/or whether or not you feel they're worth the price. I've been wanting a set of BSG dog tags for a while now, but it seems I've missed all the "independent" runs by a couple of years. Thanks!

I have a set and don't like them. They don't appear to be pure brass and the edging is black (go figure). Anyhow, I like MJF's way better since they are fully brass.

MJF are great, but I love the qmx ones too, they are pretty damn good quality, the only downside is they have a qmx print on the back of em' other than that I highly suggest them

Black edging? That's not readily apparent in the photos posted on QMX's website, and I don't think the screen-worn tags have black edging. But then, I haven't been able to find a decent close-up photo of them either.

MJF's? Are they still available, or have I missed another opportunity?

Yeah, the licensing imprint on the back is the one thing in particular that I don't like about them. I understand the reason for it, but IMO it detracts from the overall quality and appearance.

Hmmm...that's one :thumbsdown and one :thumbsup. :confused

The black edge is more like whatever material they had plated over. It seems like a black delrin to me, but all together its NOT pure brass. Its been plated and quite frankly feels like the weight of plastic, not like MJF's who's are hefty.

I don't know about another run, ask him !

I have a set of the QMx tags and I think they are great. Not sure why you think they are plastic, cos mine are brass. Wonder if the black you are seeing on the edge is the blackening agent they used to get the emblem and letters darker.

I finally watched BSG: Razor tonight. There's a scene near the end where you can get a good look at the tags worn by Kendra Shaw (Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen)--the edges are definitely not blackened. If QMX's tags are made from brass (as their website indicates) this could probably be sanded off, but I'm not sure how that might affect the "protective coating".

I checked MJF's post on the Dewback Wing/ASAP board, and saw his tags. They look good, but I'm not particularly impressed with the idea of having to find someone locally to add my name to them, or the fact that they all have the same serial number. Yeah, I know, picky, picky, picky... :lol Besides, with the difficulties he seems to have had with the first run (which is sold out), I doubt there will be a second.

Apparently, at this point my options are QMX or wait to see what the future brings. To everyone who has posted, thank you very much!

Of course, if anyone has any other suggestions... :D

Just as a note; Got Maul's tags might be an accident. Mine and several others have QMx tags and ours don't have black on the edges.

can someone who has them post photos? i'd much rather see real pics from someone's camera than a studio shot from the vendor.

if i like them, i may sell off my MJF tags to get these...

Here's my next dumb question. Does anyone have any reliable info on the actual size of the screen-used tags? QMX states on their website that their tags are 1.3125" high, 1.1562" wide, and 0.0937" thick ("exactly the same size as the screen-used tags"), but I've seen other sources that state the tags are possibly as large as 1-3/4" high and 1-1/2" wide, and up to 1/8" thick. Even MJF's tags went through two different size changes (size increased each time based on "new info"), and his third version looks approximately 50% larger than his first. :confused

I'm so confused... :confused

Oh, never mind...I'll just shut up now and order a set from QMX after the holidays. :rolleyes Again, thanks for all the help!

Here are the collected tags from several dead crewmen, in "Fragged". I notice that several materials seem to have been used... I wonder if the different metals signify different ranks, or branches of service...?

While researching this :rolleyes I found a site that stated the majority of screen-used tags are not brass, but are simply painted plastic. Whether they're brass, plastic, or some other material, the tags in that photo may simply have been "aged" by different prop makers or were aged differently to show various stages of age/wear.

I haven't found anything to indicate different ranks or branches would be issued tags of different materials; as far as I know, each person would be issued a set of tags that would be worn throughout their military career unless lost, stolen, or damaged.

There not plastic, the black edges are just from how they aged them, there solid brass

got maul's tags sure don't look brass...

easiest way to tell would be to intentionally scratch at some place on them. if you're name is on it, it's not like it's going to lower the resale value.

maybe scratch at the side with a pin? laser engraved plastic would seem easier to mass produce on demand than weathered brass...

Picture loaded. Yup, plastic.
Are those QMX's tags? Taking your previous posts and the subject of this thread into consideration I assume they're QMX's "personalized" tags, but we all know what happens when we assume. :p

After much debate, I decided to go ahead and sand the edge risking devaluing and risking damage to what I believed was plastic.

Alas, the gamble paid off and indeed the above post is correct, there is brass under there.

Conclusion : These tags are brass.:love
