PropShop announces TFA Props!

And we complain about Anovos. It's a shame I thought they were going to make Rogue One items!

i wonder what the deal is... judging by this site there was a pretty decent amount of people buying products... i think the pricey alone didnt kill them but the crazy shipping and customs fee's. their 1200 saber would have cost me close to 1600 to get it delivered here.

even though i would have struggled to afford that, i am now wishing i did... i bet these props have just doubled in value

Some of them...maybe. Probably not the Graflex. They were already pushing the max value that a replica could be worth without being signed or something.

For me, it would need to have more than rarity value to be worth more than a real parts one.

I can't imagine it helped that major advertisers like Tested had to issue a retraction when it was found out that Propshop didn't actually make the Kylo Ren helmets that were used in the movie.

Their main claim to support the pricing was that these were authentic to / indistinguishable from the movie items, from the artists that originally made them, and that revelation very publicly put that authenticity into question... even if they were the original makers of the sabers and melty Vader.

Edit: Between the blue Kylo and the photos in the link below their quality and consistency also seems questionable:

Did PropShop do any work on Rogue One?

Just received an email from inside source that said Prop Shop closed and fired everyone on Monday. Please take this as a rumor for now until confirmed but everyone who ordered needs to look to their credit card company for refunds as if it turns out to be true it may be only way to get your money back. Another lesson for Disney that you cannot rely on super rich to keep a prop replica company in business. Collectors need $350-$900 props where they will sell 1,500-3,000 units. I had spoken with James at Prop Shop directly about my concerns but it seemed Disney felt everyone would mortgage their house to own a Star Wars prop replica. Sad day.

I'm about as shocked about this as waking up tomorrow and finding that the sky is still blue... I think there's a lot of this going around after Disney bought Lucasfilm. Prices for a lot of SW merchandise got a lot higher. Why these guys thought people would pay a ton of money for a TFA Luke/Rey lightsaber that I could get the real parts and build for less is beyond me.

I did see one video of the Rey saber going to an owner. I believe the only ones that got out are the melted vader, Kylo saber, Rey saber, and a few Finn helmets. Never say the bowcaster, Poe, or Rey staff thought (aside from the promotional ones they sent out)

dashstar the youtube host got a bowcaster free of charge! all he had to do was a review of it! crazy isn't it

I think that's true for everything but the Vader helmet and Kylo saber. I have not seen anyone post any other props except video reviews. I hope they fulfill their paid orders but a refund is better than another total loss.

How would the exchange rate after Brexit affect them? Wouldn't they get less pounds from the US dollar sales but still need to cover their expenses in pounds? If that is correct, they may not be getting enough income to cover the expenses and the desired profit.

It'll be interesting to learn the rest of this story. It seems like they could stay in business making props for movies. I thought the whole prop replica thing was just a side gig for some extra $.

edit:

How could you not get business with "did the props for TFA" front and center on your resume?

i thought they could milk this for a long time, i guess the prices really were too expensive for collectors. i know it was out of my price range. i was ready to beg borrow and steal for the cross guard

I wish I had eaten the fees and interest and made an offer on the BlueKylo. Gabe would have gotten it back if TPS folded before he could get his replacement but at least it would be extant. Since it was sent to CA instead of the UK it may still be out there but now the Empire has it... :(

I thought it was a side gig too where the props were made to order instead of mass produced. So it will be interesting to see what happened. Let's not forget they were displaying the full scale falcon cockpit for sale and even complete costumes at Harrods. All this and shut down only since May? There must be more to the story.

As long as I can get good props here on RPF, PropDen, RS and on other boards, I don't really care what happens with a company selling way overpriced stuff. Being also only interested in Original Trilogy Imperials this all makes it even easier for me. Hopefully Disney wakes up and considers better prices for their future props, though it might be a long shot, knowing the greedy Mouse. We'll see how this goes ...

Oh! So this is why I was getting so many notifications about this thread yesterday. I, for one, am surprised that they closed shop. It makes sense that the price point was too high but I figured they would have considered that in their business model.

Anyway, does anyone want to buy a mint condition melted Vader? Ten thousand....I mean ONE MILLION DOLLARS! ;-)
