Prop Replicas you didn't know you had (sometimes until too late)

@arkangel: I guess it depends on how devoted one is to the source material. While I have a hard time relating to the more obscure Star Trek props or the FBI files from various movies and TV shows, I am a voracious bookhound and would replicate book props that few would recognize. That's the beauty of the hobby -- I can appreciate the zeal and passion of others while quietly being devoted to my own small corner of it.

Today I realized that ten+ years ago I owned John McClane's wallet in Die Hard, even (so much as I am able to determine from the screencaps) to the color. When the little plastic photos insert broke off from its support tab, I threw it away; I could have just as easily replaced it. D'oh!

I have numerous canisters and bottles from IKEA. They feature into numerous episodes of Firefly. I also just happen to own many an army surplus box, which again, I see all of the time in Firefly.

It doesn't hurt that I'm a die hard Firefly fan.

Resurrection of this post, yet again, like the Phoenix from the ashes.

How about this for about hinesight being 50/50?: Last month, I spotted a big pile of stuff being thrown away in front of this house as I was driving to location for the short "Lou's Bed and Breakfast." Well, on my return trip, I swung by and saw that the house was abandoned and apparently, someone had cleaned out some stuff. Well, I found a brief case that opened and latched from the top, but due to the rust on the hinges that connect the handle to the case, I decided to not take it.

It was only until a few days ago I realized I had found the same model and make of the case used to carry the money in the movie No Country for Old Men. Dang it!

Way before Aliens came out... (remember to breathe, everyone) I had one of the cylindrical flashlights with the neon lamp on one side, with a shoulder strap. Got it a a surplus shop, cheap. The movie used them as is, except for having them run more than one light at once. They also had a yellow emergency blinker for roadside use. Sucker used 6 D batteries too. Sadly it is lost to the mists of time, I have no idea what happened to it. But that means it might still be in a box somewhere! Hmmm...

I have two of these with one still in the original packaging

I had a special bottle that had two tubes. The outer tube held water and the inter tube held powder (like fake juices). It didn't work all that well, but it look cool and futuristic. Years later I was watching an episode of Star Trek Voyager and I noticed they made a "containment canister" prop out of it. All they did was add lights to the inter tube to make it glow. I guess whatever works, right? :lol

This thing.

Many years ago I found a set of the stainless steel salt and pepper shakers
that were used to make Dr. Mcoy's laser scalpels.
when I found them then I told my mom I wanted them
there was a bit of a argument as she wanted to sell them in a garage sale
in the end I won the argument
I think I may still have them some where

I had the baby monitors used in Signs until my wife gave them away to a local charity group for a sale. :angry

These are quite common. Worth looking for your old ones if you kept them.

Hope I'm not going to get jumped on for resurrecting such an old post, but I was just browsing around and wanted to chime in. I'm actually suprised some one hasn't already mentioned this one. I had this knife for a couple of years when Star Trek Nemesis came out and Shinzon had one just like it.

jarodpenn- Nice! Though I can't speak for the Mods, I honestly made this post with the intention of anyone to reply. The fact that you had this item and you didn't realize it was a prop until after you saw it, it definitely fits the topic. :D

The Hibben knives were/are very popular. You can see some of the styles used in the movie on eBay occasionally, although they are rare. Too bad that movie wasn't better - the knives would have been worth a lot more!

I also have a few 'Beware of Dog' signs laying around. Sure I've seen one of them in a movie or two. Shame with a piece of plastic is more cinematically popular than you.

Here's one from me:

I believe it was the Burt Reynolds movie "The End"; he's in bed with Sally Field and as they do the nasty, he reaches over and grabs this tacky hula girl lamp. (A similar one was in teh Elvis movie "Blue Hawaii"). At the time the Reynolds movie came out, I was living in a house with my bandmates and we somehow acquired one of those lamps. Fast forward a bunch of years: I brought her along as I moved, and she was living in our basement - until I found out how valuable those things are!!

About 18 years ago I bought a sword cane at a flee market. A couple of weeks back I was watching Sherlock Holmes and recognized it. I had to dig it out of the attic.

Bonded Hawk

I've not seen the movie yet, so had to Google image search it, I currently have that exact cane sword too! Bought at an antique market here. I guess they must be more of a "tourist" piece, as initially I thought I'd not see another like it, but obviously they are out there.

Watching the new Battlestar Galactica and noticed Starbuck was using the same emergency shortwave radio that I have.

Unless the item is iconic or at least somewhat recognizable to even the most discerning sci fi / fantasy fan, I fail to see the cool factor.

"Hey I have the same reebok sock used by emilio estevez in the breakfast club"
Umm... ok..

Along those lines, I have under my feet the same exact carpet that one could spot (paying much attention) in Harry Potter's bedroom (in his muggle home) in one of the movies (perhaps Order of the Phoenix).

I concur with your observation though. It has to be something worth mentioning, not like my Harry Potter carpet!

Alan's pager from Tron. I had a box of broken pagers I'd bought off Ebay, and dug around to see if I had any like that one. Sure enough, I had just one. :)

I had 2 pop guns when i was a kid. Turns out they were the same pop guns used for the "Smart Guns" battery in Aliens. After watching the movie as a kid i looked for them but they were lost in a move.. I was really bummed out

This was given to me as a gift:

Later to find James Franco using it in Spiderman 2:
