Prop display

What do you all use for displaying blasters/pistols? Am thining of some sort of shadow box or possibly a stand and perspex case a la MR blasters. Just wondering what is the preferred method.

Well if it's any help.

Iv'e got my E-11 on the MR display case, but it always leave's me wanting more, like a different case or perhaps illuminated.

I'm not going the way of MR cases, they frankly come off as a bit boring and sterile, like looking at a shop or a mall cellphone dealer.

I like the boxes myself. The velvet look is a great contrast to the glossy and silver appearance of guns and lightsabers. The alternative for guns in particular is a real world wall mount, bike hooks holding them level, nice look.

Right now, I have the vast majority of my props in acrylic display cases. They do take up a bunch of space. I may end up liquidating them and putting the funds together for a killer glassed bookcase and really show them off.

I like making a nice wooden style base. Here's a pic of my old Han ESB with a base I made for it. I've since sold it and the new owner is enjoying this peice :D I have a similar one for my sabers.

I have always been a fan of simple stands. I actually like most of the MR stands but I really dislike the covers. To much of a hidden thing, makes it seem... shut-off.
I guess to me they just look more "real" when they don't have a hunk of plastic sitting over them.
So I would say my view is MR type stands with the case covers trown in the corner. Your blasters should look ready to be scooped up and used at a moments notice to defeat evil, not like a sealed relic that you can't touch.

Ahhhh...the perfect thread. There was someone on eBay selling E-11 stands that were cut acrylic with an imperial cog etched into the front. They were awesome, and now that I need one I can't find it. Anybody know who makes those?

I personally don't like the MR cases. They're great if you have them on a standard shelf, or in some of the along-the-wall displays I've seen on here, but I think they make displays look cluttered when there are a bunch of them together.

Still can't beat a detolf.

The velvet case's do look sweet & I have to agree with KnightAsylum, the plastic cover for my stand never left the packaging, So the blaster sits on the mantel piece on the MR stand with easy access to picking it up every so often.

But JJ's idea sounds very tempting to having it wall mounted, perhaps even going further. In an open, locked, wall mounted gun rack, that might give any house guest's something to think about, and provide space for additional buy's or is that going a little too far? :eek

90 day's is an awful long time :angel

Good Luck :unsure :confused :confused

You don't mean this one do you?

It is sold by a guy on Rebelscum forums. I would not call this one awesome, though. I suppose you mean something else.
I also had a similiar idea, but it broke in pieces when I tried to build it...

Looks pretty awesome to me :D
Although I might lose the name plate in front. I like the idea of the rest. The stand should not draw your eye as much as the weapon (and in this case it does not) Adding to the display, while not distracting. I give it a thumbs up.

Here's how I did some of mine. I just got a large wood plaque from Michael's, stained it, and used clear acrylic rod to mount them on it. Two of them are finished. :lol

I got tired of my collection all over the house on every available surface so I put this displawall up last week. I bought some hooks today, but not enough. I'll have to buy some more soon to get the rest of my collection up.

I'm still figuring out placement and have moved things around a couple times already since I snapped this picture.

I'm hoping it will encourage me to finish those blasters that I've yet to mess with. As well as improving the look of my collection.

Damn that's nice. real showroomy like they would sell at an arms show. You can almost hear the Blastech salesman - "Hey Gil, I got the death star contract." :lol

Those are some nice displays. I like the mounted on boards versions as it adds the option of having a photo of the weapon being used, as well as the wall hanging ones. My collection is similar in display (but I only have a couple so far) as wuher da brewer. The only thing I did different (that I think really helps) is I painted the metal hangers white as well, so they don't distract from the guns. Such a little thing makes a big difference in a picture like the one above. It makes the guns the focus and hides the mounting. :D

I am not too into having to dust my props, so a clear cover or at least put into a larger display case is a good idea for me. You can also damage a delicately painted or chromed prop dusting it. If any paint or laquer isn't completely dry, or even softened by heat, the dust can embed itself into the coating. Of couse if your house has hardwood floors and electric heat, dust might not be a problem. I have used modern looking china cabinets and barrister book shelves in the past, and they usually have built in locks (if you get the key with them). Canned air is also good for dusting props and most of us either have those or an airbrush on hand. Still prefer them dustless though.
