Prometheus or Nostromo......which would you like the keys to?

I'll take the Prometheus. It is the perfect road trip machine. First of all, the rotating engine pods have a nice Serenity/Firefly slant to it (imagine how much fun one could have maneuvering the thing like Wash). The engine tech seems a little better (sure it might be slower at higher than light speeds, but if you spend time in hypersleep, who cares). The bay is equipped with one cool recreational vehicle and ATVs. So when you land on a planet, you can drive to your destination (unlike Nostromo where you have to walk places unless you use that open top mine survey ATV). It also has a basketball court which doubles as a holo-theater of sorts.

I'll admit, Nostromo has a better lifeboat though in the form of the Narcissus (which is an actual shuttle as opposed to a mobile home caravan) and Nostromo has some cooler eye candy. But I like a smaller vessel designed to go places as opposed to the semi-truck that just tows big things places. Plus, as complicated as Nostromo could be, you need some engineers that just spend time griping about things (well, one does while the second guy just walks around saying "Right" all the time). Nostromo IMHO also had a cooler hat and patch design (the Prometheus wardrobe overall was neater though and the name tags made sense).

As for Sulaco, yes very appealing. I love the guns (and nukes) that it carries. But one has to ride an express elevator to hell to get anywhere planet side. I hear the cornbread on board sucks too. ;)

:lol
Quite right, that vessel required a shuttle, something on which one can take tea during the journey.:)

None of those ships have carpet.

Is it possible (or correct) to put anthropomorphic descriptions on inanimate objects?
The Prometheus is too...metrosexual for me. The clean lines, the amenities, the bearded, mohawked, tattooed crew members who turned tail and ran at the first sign of a pile of bones. It's like being trapped in a hipster nightmare!

I'll take the Nostromo and it's crew out for a run anyday! The crew encountred a problem and fought it to their deaths. That's my kind of crew. Not a bit or ironic facial hair in sight.

The Sulaco carried some cool gear.

Im almost starting to believe SRS deliberately painted the majority of the Prometheus crew in a bad light as a direct flip on the strengths of the Nostromo crew saying heres a bunch of ring-ins, youve already seen what a seasoned crew is capable of. Its a flip with David as well, it was a long time in and quite a surprise to find out Ash was a robot, Davids introduction was in the first scenes.

I don't know what Scott's motivation was in his attitude toward the crew of the Prometheus. The film left me torn between appreciating the attempted depth of the story but furious with Scott's amateur handling of the crew characterization and motivations. Is this really the guy who directed The Duellists and Blade Runner? Sorry to go off topic!!

The difference is that the crew of the Nostromo was just that, a crew. I don't know if they've ever stated how long they've been together but I got the impression that they've been working together for a few years at least and have really gelled as a crew. With the Prometheus, on the other hand, the majority of the "crew" weren't really crew members per se as much as passengers or supernumeraries and it's clear with the exception of the Captain and his two co-pilots, they were all thrown together specifically for this mission and had never worked together before then.

As for which ship I'd prefer, I'd definitely take the Prometheus. Much sleeker, it looks a lot more comfortable and it has one hell of Captain's quarters with its own environment, holo projector, and that awesome med bed.

Nostromo...it's got character. Aspen Beer, and good coffee. :rolleyesBesides, even after a rough time landing it, Parker and Brett can get it back out of a gravity well. Narcissus can be a fall-back better than a sedentary life-capsule, however expensively equipped.

Yeah, all while one squacks about wanting an equal share while the other says "Right" all the time and both multiplying their repair estimates by a factor of three or four (I know I know, so they can seem like miracle workers since it comes straight out of the Mr. Scott miracle worker playbook). ;)

The Nostromo crew were a crew, although Ash and Ripley were newcomers based on the discussion Ripley had with Dallas about Ash. But if the mining vessels have a cadre of crews to draw upon, like say fishing vessels of today, than even people who don't work directly together can still have reputations to one another. So I got the sense that Dallas and Ripley were at least aware of each other's reputations, even though they hadn't worked together before (with Ash being the unknown as he was the science guy that neither knew about).

When it comes to the original question though, I don't think about the crew too much. The captain of the Prometheus and the two pilots were pretty good guys though since they knew what they had to do when the time came.

Depends... If a date with either Ripley or Shaw is obligated when taking the ship, Id take Prometheus.:love

Im into more emotional women, give me Lambert and its a deal.:cry

Getting back to the real heart of this film, its sci fi, Im gunna decide on the Prometheus. She took the journey in her stride and the bad guy out. The escape pods far more practicle and versitile than the Mo`s shuttle as well and Prometheus has a Rec area, cant sleep all the time.

And she looks good to.

Why would I want either of them when one is nothing but debris on a planet, and the other is debris in space?

Call me nostalgic but I'll take the Nostromo. She's got style, personality, and can tow stuff. The flashy "new" Prometheus is ok, and certainly easier to land on an abandoned planet, but I quit driving sports cars years ago.
