Preserving food for a prop display?

Wondering if anyone here has had any experience with preserving a perishable food item for display purposes. I did some searches and came up with some vague references to acrylic spray, but couldn't find anything that had actually been tried first hand and proven to work.

there are some very realistic diplayable foods available in craft stores and I'm sure online... perhaps you should try something artificial instead...

I've seen artificial steak, chicken, fruit, veggies and they all look very real, right up until you pick them up

(it would help if I had any idea what you were doing?)

What are you trying to do? There are several faux-food items at places like Michaels that might work and that look extremely realistic.

Durn. Tgreco beat me to it.

Ahhh, fake food is for wimps...I say put on a few coats of varnish! :)
Actually anything that seals it from the air should work. Although they may be right, fake may be easier, just buy some real food and experiment some. You would have to be more specific on what you are doing for more specific suggestions. :)
Good luck...mold away!

I missed the Donut, that is an awesome idea.
I think it deserves research and I will go out and eat a few dozen and see if it gives me any insperation. :)
