Preliminary info gathering: Ninja Turtles

Haven't finished my other projects, so it may be a while before I start this one, but I thought I might as well begin gathering some info. Any good pictures of the first movie suits are definitely of interest.

Been looking for a size reference of the four characters, but for some reason I can't find the site. I think it mentioned the four ranging from 5'6"-5'9" in height, with Rafael being the tallest and most robust.

Gotta say it's gonna be small scale, so not full-size, but I'm going for something like this look:

Cheers

There is one of the screen used costumes (at least that is what it claims) on ebay right now, if you do a search. They might have some good referance pics, I just saw it in passing.

I just checked it out, but unfortunately it's one of the TMNT3 suits and they were very different from the suits in the first movie, but thanks for letting me know. Looks really nice and appears to be complete, from what I can tell.

Ack! I'm sorry, you did say that in your first post.:redface

So you're looking to do a diorama?

Accurate movie figures/diorama... now that would be cool!

And yeah, Id love to see an accurate movie suit replicated. As awesome as that guys suit was (cant remember who) it was his own design, not from a particular movie.

Well, there are many toys of the turtles currently available. While they may not be model quality, perhaps they can be modded with little effort?

That would be kind of cheating. Also, the ones I have seen have all been small and squat. When I do them, mine will be about 10"-12" tall at 1:6 scale. Haven't seen any toys in that scale, tbh.

I will be watching you with interest NHM... :love

There are some on eBay right now actually. I used to have one -they are not bad. Might work as a good base anyway (even though it would be cheating a little). Definitely not as tall and thin as the movie ones though.

Can't really use a figure as the super sculpey I'm using has to be baked...

Really don't have all that many good pictures, but I will soon go through the movie and grab all the various good shots I can get. I know there were some promo pictures made available... I have a few of them saved, but they are in extremely low quality and really not worth much.

As an alternative I could always do them in these poses as shown here - if the best poses from the scene shown in the pic in the first post turn out to be too trivial:

(For some reason I don't have a promo picture of Leo).

If I get a chance I could try and look through my collection of Ninja Turtle stuff and scan some for you. I have a bunch of stuff from the movie, mostly Raph though, cause he was my fav.

Cool, thanks. Really appreciate it. I only mainly have stuff from the second and third movie, basically only having the dvd of the first movie to work from.

Looking for someone who can help me out. It's been difficult to visualize how the legs go in this current picture to retain balance, so I was hoping that someone with at least some martial arts skill... or just more flexibility than me could get into that pose and snap some pictures front/back/sides for me for reference.

Just need the body and leg positions for that pose, as the legs I've been working on seems to sit awfully wide from each other and just doesn't look quite right - looks okay when viewed from the angle of the picture, but from other angles it looks like a rather painful and wide stance with very little balance. It's the bent leg that is giving me the most issues.

Thanks.

In Chinese martial arts, it's called a "Pu Bu", "flat stance", "crouch stance", or "pressing stance" ...you should be able to find plenty of references searching the correct Chinese name though. One of my teachers called it a "Pok Toi" and I catch myself using that name at times too but "Pu Bu" is far more recognized.

Note: Both feet should be flat so ignore lazy (or less flexible) Kung Fu/Wushu artists who are up on their toes on the bent leg. If you still need reference pix, I can take some sometime this next week. :)

I found a video that demonstrates the stance with a quick search: Check it out.

Holy crap... then I guess I got it somewhat right. Thanks for the video and the info. I like the fact that he scared off the cat doing those moves! :lol

So the balance comes from leaning the torso forward?
