PREDATORS - MOVIE INFO

PS - love that quote in your sig Rob. :)

...and for the record I think your Samurai Preds are in fact the best thing since sliced bread. Do not kid yourself my freind...those bad ass sumbitches are thee ****. Totally badass motherfunkers. The Samurai you created are exactly what the Predators are all about...code of honor.

We are bound to get wound up about something we hold so dear to our heart.

And the chances are if we look hard enough at the new film, someone somewhere will see something and say " I DID THAT FIRST " we have coverd most things custom pred build wise hehe.

Now your samurais are so unique , maybe thats why they have not leaked the SUPER BLACK PREDATOR.
which in the script is worded something like " a cross between a medievil and samurai "

because we here would immeditely know where it had came from, as for me and many others , your samurai is the most unique pred outside the lost hunters, and is easily spotted.

Comon FOX, we've given the Predator more publicity and credibility over the last x amount of years than any sort of advertising.

If youve chose any designs from here to build upon, go on........ be nice.... say thanks in the credits :)

Ha ..I love how worked up we get about another chapter in our Pred-Film Universe! That's passion..whether you are a fan of a RR./ Nimrod helmed project or not! Couple of quick points I want to throw in. FOX has basically backed off this project creativly ..they are Giving RR, Nimrod, KNB lots of free reign on this. Hate to say it, but we may have seen the Super Blackies. Dont forget ..those names are purely markers to name a specific charater in the script. The script was done before KNB worked on their translation of the suits. All I know is that I'm seeing at least three Predators with slightly different builds then I'm used to seeing ..all with Black Bios and no revealed ( and posibly mutated ) faces. I'm also seeing at least one traditional looking Pred leaning up against an Alien looking structure ( refer to script for this "crucified" pred). I could very well be wrong..and I have nothing to prove my statement, but it does seem consistant with what I've read. Finally..this one is just coming from a professional background....posting anything as an insider on "Rotten Tomatoes" forum will get you the same kind of bitchslap that leaking set photos would get you....just sayin'

Keep up the furvor guys ..cant wait to read more opinions ..we have a new film coming!!!!

PS. Rob ..it was a pleasure to read your last post ...I was worried there for a second :)

Was the Matrix a new idea? Yes but there are tons of references to other movies and of course the ******-like rebirth. New ideas are out there but nearly every single one has been taken from something that inspired the artist.

In a way it was new, in another it wasn't; even the term "matrix" is itself taken from William Gibson's Neuromancer (written in 1984; look it up, it's true), the book that basically invented virtual reality. The jacking in via a port on the back of your neck was also from that movie.

As for the samurai: Batman Dead End had one, too (the Big Red, at least that's what it looks like in my opinion, and forgive if I'm wrong here), and that's old. That doesn't mean that the Samurai Pred drawings here weren't absolutely badass and in themselves original. In my opinion, it's not even wrong to assume that two people could come up with the idea at the same time - for all we know, the guys could have watched Cruise's Last Samurai when they came up with that. Think about what the Preds are to us, and what else, in your mind, most resembles them in Earth's history in their viciousness and rawness, yet cultivated ROE in their own terms... I can come up with Samurai, roman gladiators and vikings in 5 secs, vikings being my own personal chosen pred alter ego. No wonder the Thomas brothers set one up against a special ops team.

Is it just me, or does anyone else see George's designs in the preds? I really need to apologize, because I can't remember his usename here, but he did some awesome work. Had like 30+ pages of different designs...

EDIT: It's Jailer1955.

We are bound to get wound up about something we hold so dear to our heart.

So true. And yes, I can see your frustration when it comes to being copied by the bigger company.
I designed a predator spear back in what, 2001 or so, put the scan online and some time later this wallpaper pops up of AVP'04, of a predator holding a spear, remarkably looking much (about 90%) like mine. At first, I felt a little frustration, mixed with being flattered. The latter remained, and it's still how I regard being copied by a bigger company.

Sure, It'd be nice to get some credit, and we as fans most likely build stuff closer to the source or at least the style fans would like to see, but in the end it's all for ***** and giggles.

Relax, enjoy.

I'm with you.

Make no mistake about it...the Hunters Lair is the sole reason that the Predator franchise is still alive. It's people like Rob, Carl, Casey, Lee, Scott and countless others who continue to create works of art. It's no wonder Fox comes here for inspiration!!!

Damn Rob, did you delete the whole samurai thread? Because that's a crying shame if you did. I used your 'scribblings' for inspiration a lot. And when it turns out that the professional artists in charge of creature design thought your ideas were better than anything THEY could come up with, where are you going to point people to prove it? I'm sure you're pissed off, I would be too, but you still owned their asses on this one. And when those credits roll on Predators, and we see 'creature design', we can all chuckle to ourselves and think 'suuure you did', because we know who really came up with it. And we're the ones that matter, right? Point me to another group of people who care more about how this movie looks, if you can, who you would rather know that YOUR designs inspired the new Predator.

The preds look good .. i hope the film is good. The simple fact is that they have looked on the lair for inspiration...i know this (a little birdie told me) Out of all the 100's of suits, custom design concepts, thousands of bios and different pieces that have been produced on the forum for over 9 years. It's an honor to have them think that highly of a costume forum to draw inspiration from..just like we drew inspiration from stan and his design. If credit isn't given..i say no big deal,.. we know the score. we set the mark for them and many others to follow. Pretty damn cool for the Hunters Lair imho.
AM
I whole heartedly agree. If the guys putting this film together are reading this, it is an honor to have been considered for inspiration in your film.
We rock!

I can't tell you how pleased I am that KNB stayed faithful to the original look of the pred we all know and love. I really like some of the armor I'm seeing. I have long thought that metal armor pieces should be mounted to leather or some other soft substrate to provide a comfortable interface with the skin. So far, so good. I pray the story and the rest of the film follow suit.

Here's an obvious question

Why would the Predators need bio helmets on their home planet?

It's kinda like humans needing a space helmet on earth.

I know they look cool and all but seems like they would be pretty poorly adapted to their own planet
unless there has been some sort of catastrophic event that has altered their environment.

Just an observation.

Not their own planet , its basically a game reserve, all the humans would drop dead with no air :)

so i guess they need the bios for the little extra whatever they need, and the hud etc.

It doesn't take place on the home planet, but rather a planet used as a hunting reserve. But as we have seen, the helmets also are used as an interface for thier weapons and tracking systems. Hope that helps

yeah that makes perfect sense.

thanks for clearing it up for me. I haven't read the script. and it has been a test of will not too. I just want to be surprised when the film hits.

perfect credit for the lair would be ...

troublemaker studios would like to thank All the wack jobs on the hunters lair. :)

wouldn't it be awesome to get like a "special thanks to The Hunter's Lair"?

perfect credit for the lair would be ...

troublemaker studios would like to thank All the wack jobs on the hunters lair. :)

Im not saying we should see our names during the ending credits but, a lilttle wink at the true fans and creative pool they so often visit would be a nice gesture. Just like the two posted above..."heres a little wink to the die hards over at the lair...cheers."

Hang on a sec.. a coupe pages back I saw someone say that the dual cannons from the Wolf was stolen from a fan. How did that come up? Last I checked the dual cannon concept is from YEARS ago when it first showed up in a Dark Horse comic when they go hunting a queen with Machiko. One of the preds has dual cannons and that issue came out like 6 years ago or more. Not saying studios don't grab fan ideas, but careful where you fling the poop :)
