Predator 1 Backpack Found Parts!

If you take a look at my backpack posting, I did identify a bunch of those Falcon items, the rest I built to scale as 3D models and had Scott Andrews print them out.
 
4 more parts IDed on the RPF as pieces from a Tamiya M2 Bradley tank. I'd be willing to bet a couple more pieces are as well.
 
I pretty much determined the blade gaunt was that Milleneum Falcon piece, just never updated here due to what I thought was little interest. I can see now, though, things have taken off. Especially at the RPF.

Thanks, Art! I've got a good base for my backpack, but since I'm hoping to make an uber accurate P1 display, I'm going to try and track down as many of those original pieces as possible!
 
Hahaha... so, I just wrote Stan Winston's School on Facebook to ask if they might be able to supply us with any additional photos of the cannon. Their response was that there was this amazing Predator board called the Hunter's Lair who just did an event at Monsterpalooza that featured a number of great cannons! LOL Smack!

After years of researching known photos and those of the ones of the backpack and cannon that were sold last year by the Prop Store at SDCC, my P1 is the most accurate cannon to date. Finding the greeblies for the backpack is one thing, but the cannon will never be 100%, because when it blew up on set, there were crew people on their hands and knees in the jungle looking for all of the parts. Some were never recovered, including some of the greeblies. The new reference photos of the Prop Store pack and gun obviously depict the gun as it looked after it was repaired by Richard Landon, who used spandex and crazy glue to form an internal tubular shell, to which the locatable greeblies were glued to. Trouble is, no one really had any photos to compare to. Secondly, the cannon you see in the recent pix is the way it looked after it was altered yet again for P2 when it was used for the elder at the end of the film. Metal tubes and wiring were added, as well as a tri-laser module in top (which can now be seen inserted into the barrel for some reason).

Using the new photos with the old, I was able to get a pretty clear look at how the cannon looked as it was intended.

Shannon Shea: "Carl - I'm not sure that Steve said this to you directly, but when you passed out the trophies, he said: Wow! This is a better sculpt than I did originally. Then he, Matt and I began studying it and noticing all of the details you put into it that were accurate to the model parts Steve kit bashed onto the original. It is the best recreation we've ever seen! And I'm proud to have one on my shelf!"

If it wasn't for guys like Shannon (who is a member here, btw) non of us would be inspired to create these things. Glad I got it right.

What an awesome compliment coming from Steve, and of all the pred replicas I' ve seen this cannon is top. Pretty amazing to know they are on display in their home or shop. Carl your work and plans came together perfectly

Yeah... it is tough having to go back to the original film and trying to determine parts and pieces. We will never get them all, but it has been fun IDing so many parts from the original and picking them up on eBay. Not sure what I would ever do with them, but hey... at least I have em.
 
We are down to 7 parts left to be IDed on the pack! One of the guys on the RPF IDed another one this morning.
 
man talk about noodling down on the details ...you guys are crazy...

this thread is so cool ...it's awesome to see the level of research that has gone into this prop. it has to be the most done on piece of the predator than any other in the history of the board
 
Big thanks goes to Slave1 for getting the ball rolling on this. I took those pics of the pack and cannon last summer but haven't given them any serious consideration since then. His discoveries have started a bit of a chain reaction!
 
I am very glad! The model guys are certainly helping me, too. I'm wanting my P1 as accurate as possible. Thank YOU, Art, for gathering all those wonderful pics for us!
 
Wow, this thread is realy helpful! thank you for taking the time to find all this stuff, it will realy come in handy as i get to these pieces to make them. Not looking forward to the prices of those old model kits though....
