Practice Lighting - KB SSD Executor Engines

Ok, so last night I'm trying to get my project tables cleared off so I can start on my DS2 port and RC Star Destroyer projects. Since I plan on fully lighting both projects I was on the hunt for something to practice my lighting skills again... so then my Korbanth Executor was staring at me in the corner.

I had bought it on evilbay and it was in really bad shape. I still can't identify the brown paste that the guy used to glue it together with. :wackoAnd the blue, well, that will be repainted soon... VERY soon... (it came to me that way - maybe he thought paint holds like glue if you put enough on...) :cool

With a little disassembly and grinding off of the um, brown paste, absolutely little design (as you'll see the wire mess underneath)... eight hours later, the engines are glowing nicely on a 9v battery, with a nice plug-in connector.

Not doing any fiber on this SD (about to start my RC one), but it was a cool lighting mini-project. Essentially they are wired-pairs across from each other, so if any go out, they go out in pairs, like they were just turned off. Once I paint it up, I'll polish up the engine insides and they should glow pure. The red-orange glow is definitely cool:

Now that was a fun! Not bad for one day's work.

Looks awesome with all the engines lit...makes such a big difference once models have lights.

Cool !

Ground off all of the old "brown cement" (gorilla glue?) joints, ground all connectors flat, and realigned the hull...

Got the power connector imbedded in the sidewall...

...and FINALLY got most of that nasty thick blue paint off that the original owner put on it. Also fixed 13 sidewall/outer trench areas. Looks like I might be able to save some of the scribing on the hull, yet.

She's looking much nicer. I had my worries at first... It's always pleasing to fix up an almost lost cause... :cool

Finally got her repainted... she's looks a LOT better...

Before:

The way she came to me from the original owner... brok'n and feelin' mightly blue... :sick
