NEW YORK – Katy Perry's cleavage is fine for Russell Brand — not so for Elmo and Sesame Street.
The children's show says it won't air a taped segment featuring the "California Gurls" singer and Elmo. The pop star — who is known for her risque outfits — wore a gold bustier top as she sang a version of her hit "Hot N Cold." But some felt it was too revealing for the kid set.
Sesame Street said in a statement Thursday that in light of the "feedback we've received" after the bit was aired on YouTube, they won't include it on the show. While the show said it was still available on YouTube, it had been removed by the official Sesame Street YouTube channel. Other versions on YouTube have generated thousands of hits.
A rep for Perry said Thursday that Perry enjoyed her time with Sesame Street and Elmo, and pointed out that the clip is still online on her website.

As a parent of a 2 year old, I have a few thoughts on what other parents should really learn about life:

1) You can shelter, protect, and limit your child's exposure all you want, but as soon as your "little angel" hops on that kindergarten school bus, you damned well better believe that all bets are off on what is going to be said by other "little angels". It's UP TO YOU TO TEACH your child right from wrong, and not to shelter them so much that they don't know how to deal with any life situation.

2) Like it's been said above, I've seen more cleavage in Shrek, Tinkerbell, and half the shows on Nickelodeon.

3) When did Sesame street become MTV?

BUT

If I was the director/producer/etc. of shooting that day (and I have experience in both) the first thing I would have done is put Katy in something more conservative. As much as I like seeing anything Katy wears (nom nom nom) Sesame Street is not the place for Jubblies.

It's funny, because the audience this is intended for wouldn't even notice it/care. My 3 year old isn't channel surfing for boobies..... yet.

I was expecting far worse when I heard they pulled this. I'm not a parent, but if I were, I don't think I'd have a problem with it. It's not like she's dressed "slutty". It's a fancy dress and kids are going to see that at weddings, dances or just out when they go with parents. Are parents going to have those people cover up? It's just ridiculous.

I just don't get that they decided this after the fact when they could have easily said BEFORE shooting that the clothing wasn't appropriate for little kids and that she needed to wear something more...conservative(?) for children's TV.

I don't personally see the big whoop and I don't think it's that edgy compared to what else she could have sported.

I love they went through all the shooting and effort into editing (which must have taken a good while to do being an editor myself) and then decide to just pull it after full post production.

Never mind Katy... Elmo's completely naked!
DISGUSTING!
He should be put on some sort of register for that.

Really?
All the things that are wrong with the world today and people waste time complaining about this?
She's a famous singer, and yet found time, and wanted to appear on a kids show with probably the most adorable muppet ever. She could be doing far worse things, god knows many female singers/celebrities are. There appears to be a core of people determined to still be shocked by the fact that women have breasts. Probably the same people that thought Janet Jackson's nipple slip was more damaging to their kids than watching gun crime on TV. Grow up folks, there is nothing wrong with boobs. And really, were you all looking at them that much when there's a red, fuzzy, cute monster running around? She was wearing a flesh coloured mesh, same as ice-skaters wear, it's not like you could see anything.

It's strange, but Katy Perry + Russel Brand = far lss crazy than either of them separately.

I hate to say this but Janet Jackson's Nipplegate episode has scarred me for life. I have never seen such a hideous looking monster in my life. That image is forever burned into my psyche! <I shudder just thinking aboout et.....see I can't even type........BLEH!>

Otherwise Elmo is too new! Grover is old school lovable monster!!!!

What?! You're ****ing kidding me! Women have *what* now?

Yes. I prefer gonzo, though.*

She was wearing a flesh coloured mesh, same as ice-skaters wear, it's not like you could see anything.
Shh, allow me to have my happy thoughts. Don't ruin it for me.

*referring to the muppet named gonzo, of course.

Now look what they've caused!!!

I just watched the clip. I don't think this is the first time they've not aired or pulled a segment on the show due to parent complaints. So, apparently the team of child psychologists that advise the show had no problems but some parent somewhere thought Elmo was getting a free show looking up her skirt like Russel did? Is her dress any more provocative than the one performer playing Ariel for Disney's is?
