Polyester gelcoat with polyurethane expanded foam

Trying to make a largish statuette prop and I was wondering can I gelcoat a silicone mould and then fill the void with the expanded foam, additionally if it feasible when would the best time to introduce the foam? When the gelcoat is tacky or cured? Any casting brainiacs with the answers your input would be appreciated!

Absolutly fine, do it all the time. Best to foam it just as the gel is just past rubbery
