You could always go the Paul Newitt route and kitbash the 1/350 Refit Enterprise. (I wish he'd completed the SFAM #5 on that topic!)

Writing a physical letter to the company won't hurt, either. They had opinion/suggestion forms at Wonderfest. I believe there is talk of Reliant. I know for a fact that they'd be more than happy to produce her, but it's all about the Benjamins to cover production, then make a reasonable profit, of course.

The Reliant/Miranda-Class is quite a bit different from the refit Enterprise, actually.

The only thing that seems to be identical between the two ships are the warp nacelles otherwise there are a lot of small revisions.

If you take the ships in scale with one another, the saucer on the Reliant from what I understand has a greater diameter than the Enterprise saucer mainly because of the warp engineering/engines build-up at the end of Reliant's saucer. Remember, Reliant, unlike the Nebula-Class ships, has no proper secondary hull.

Reliant was also the first starship in the Star Trek universe to have shuttlebays built into the saucer, too. Those are in the rear on the sides of the impulse engines This was well before Star Trek: The Next Generation.

This kitbash sounds like quite a bit of work and you'd probably have to do more than a bit of scraping and remodeling on the nacelles since the pylon attachments are reversed on the Reliant.

But yes, it would be nice for some company to finally release a decent Reliant kit or miniature that isn't a 3-inch diecast ship! Goodness know AA was supposed to do one years ago and there hasn't been a proper mass-market Reliant kit since the AMT/ERTL days...

On topic... Anybody got any idea when any of these models are supposed to be out? The refit, the original, the movie...?

I'm not buying that size comparison. I saw the movie again the other day and to me based on the bridge size and location the shio looks to be about the same size as the original TOS Enterprise.

Yeah...theyre on crack with that size comparison. I think JJ is trying to explain why his interiors look bigger than his exteriors AND they have the size of Galactica wrong on that chart IINM.
We have the bridge and deck windows for scaling and it doesnt fit with what they are now claiming. We also saw teh ship in the dockyards against the shuttles and theres no way...
 
I was always under the impression that the "original" enterprise was smaller in stature to the re-fit...but then again...I am not a die hard Trekkie,but I do enjoy the films and most of the ship designs.That's why I thought that the "new" version of the Enterprise was to be smaller if it were made into a 1/350 scale kit as talked about in another thread.
 
The original Enterprise was a little smaller than the Motion Picture refit, yes. But only marginally. The saucer was expanded some, new engines and pylons, more separation between saucer and secondary... But nowhere near the difference between the original/refit and what they're saying this new ship is. It's bigger than the Enterprise-E.

Has there been any information on what the crew compliment of the new Enterprise is compared to the old one?

I can buy the size difference. The TNG Enterprise-D was a much larger ship than the original, but the bridge internally, view screens and such weren't that much larger than they were in the original series.
 
I could buy it being a little bit bigger than the refit, like in the 350-400 meter range but 725?! Yeah right...
 
Oh no...the scaling of the 'D' is readily apparent and the exterior of the windows and decks reflect this. We know the size of the viewscreen from the interior shots on the new ship and we can scale it by the exterior shots on the new ship and there is DEFINITLEY an incongruity.
I think the basic fact is JJ just isnt familiar enough with the E and his vision for the INTERIOR sets conflicted with with the exterior and sonow they are trying to 'revise' the disparity. The same thing happened IIRC with the TOS 'E'. ORIGINALLY (the CAGE) it was supposed to be a smaller ship with half of the crew. It was only after it went in to production as a series that they revised their specs. All of that 'overlay with an aircraft carrier' stuff was their revisionist history.

I dunno guys, the impression I got from the film in that little pull out shot going from the bridge to the exterior of the ship... it seemed like the dome on top was almost twice as big if not bigger than the bridge itself.

Very true, that's why the lowered the bridge dome on the Enterprise model for the regular series. That one change increases the size of the ship.

AND added the second row of windows around the primary hull which was to create the illusion of two decks there instead of one (as on the original pilot version of the miniature).
