Hey all,

Just was wondering if anyone know roughly how long Sal has been offering the Genei katana on www.pointgallery.com? I was showing a friend the site today and just noticed it, so am both curious as to how long I have been without it, and also wondering if anyone has one and can offer any comments?

I'm sure its a wonderful piece as I got a Musashi from him quite a number of years back, but also figured this would be a good way to spread the word of its availability.

I will probably go for the version with the PPK blade rather then the bushido as its for display, My musashi actually has the shinto, which was the better of the two that was being offered at the time, but the PPK blade will be more then fine.

So, is its availability news to anyone else? Or have I just been under a rock for a while :)

It looks nice, and I don't know if I'm missing something, but I'm not sure I could justify paying ~$650 for a tsuba, tsuka and assembly on a ~$350-$400 PPK.

$1000 just seems a tad steep. Again maybe I'm missing something. Is a bronze tsuba really that expensive? Is the tsuka made of ivory or something? I saw that the "core" is kevlar/carbon fiber, but I dunno.

Still pretty awesome, though. Don't get me wrong.

That does seem kinda steep... surely there's some way to swap the Marto Connor handle onto a Chen..... dunno. (t'would definitely be cheaper)

David Stokes reviewed the prototype a while back... 9mo-1yr I think. I contacted Sal after David hinted they would go into production and ended up getting the Connor prototype (along with a Musashi), however Sal never sent me any documentation that the Connor I have was the prototype or a pointgallery sword :( Sal did have David ship the prototype directly to me. If I ever get the home remodeling done I'll have both katana's to display next to autographed pics of Paul & Lambert

so YOUUUURRRR the guy that got the prototype sword? i tell ya what, that is THE FINEST Practical plus katana blade I have ever seen.. I still have my pictures i did of it on my hard drive..... You have a FINE sword there, if you ever need to sell it, please contact me!

well heres how it started..... Ive known Sal for a while.... since back shortly after he started making the Musashis..... we have had hours of phone conversations with me constantly "twisting" his arm into doing special projects for me :)

One such conversation revolved around a "mentors katana" that I purchased from a friend and fellow RPFer (vadermania") Sal had voiced interest in doing a Connor style sword, but wanted to make it uniquely HIS.
The Mentors katana I had was a prototype which was sculpted to represent the Highlander 1 movie PROP.... meaning it had all the roughness and quirks of the original prop....

The mentors katana used the marto "ivory handled katana" handle as its base and had the head sculpted on, JUST LIKE the original prop, However, as Owners of Sal's Musashi will know, Sal's handles are a bit skinnier than the martos. Sal really liked the Mentors katana head, but decided to graft it onto HIS handle.... in turn making it a totally new sword.
He worked on the prototype and decided to mount it on a PPK blade he had laying around. At the time he was not doing the PPK blades anymore and just figured that would be a one-off. He sent it to me for review and as much as I liked it, i was dead set on getting one with a folded Bushido blade. Seems he was able to sell it to Cheech here.... lucky guy....
He felt there was enough interest for them, so began to put them into full production.

I wont take anything away from Sal's hard work, but i think even HE would admit, that i DID sorta twist is arm into making them... :) YUP! its all Davie's fault!!!

Anyway, if my "professional" opinion, is that the Genei is THE FINEST movie style highlander sword currently availible. I have been doing this for a LONNNNNGGG time. I have alot of time researching these swords, talking with prop makers, collectors of the originals etc..... so by saying that, my opinion is based in knowledge, not just..." fluff"

heres a shot of my Daquilas:

The top three swords are practical bladed: Katana, Custom one off wakizashi and one of a kind Tanto..
The bottom two are :bushido bladed Musashi (the first one made with a bushido blade) and bushido bladed Genei.

and before you ask.... yes, I actually have a few NEW projects goin on with Sal... so theres more to come!

hey cheech, i hope you dont mind me posting these, but i just found up
these are from my review of YOUR prototype..

Very cool. Thanks for the info and pics David.

I know where my tax refund money is going now.

I'll just tell myself its Davies fault and this way I don't feel too bad about it :lol

I'm looking to pick up a Musashi here in a few months as well. Still trying to find a more accurate Connor though....

I don't mind the pic's at all David. I'm curious as to what the new projects are. See if you can talk Sal into doing a couple 1-off highlander lightsaber hilts... Brass highlight custom emmiter, activation button on the hilt up towards the emmiter, and then a brass covertec belt clip disk where the infamous brass screw would be on the H1 hilt ;P My upstairs is the never ending remodel so everything is boxed, but I dug out the katanas this evening & my autographed pics and snapped a pic. (Sorry, lighting at night is horrible up stairs & the flash didn't help get a better pic)

BTW, if anyone has a lead on any clothing place making the one Duncan hoodie long jacket/trench (was a cream color & I think a courser weaved cotton), I've been trying to find one.

Ah, another reminder that I'm going to have to get these swords one of these days. Hopefully later this year. Shipping's going to be a killer to Australia though :eek

Be seeing you,

Magnus Darcrider

conner sword

hey guys i realy need this info so please respond ameditaly i want to know what the conner katana brass tsuba is called is a special kind if so what brand is it i know that there were three diffrent ones im looking for H1 style tsuba any help would be ery helpul

Re: conner sword

As far as I'm aware there isn't any special name for it... it is just a custom tsuba. A few of us have searched the sword parts suppliers to no avail at finding something close enough & one even contacted Sal from the Point Gallery but struck out on there being extras. There's an interest thread in the Junkyard about a possible run of tsuba's related to the H2 hilts that were just offered. That may be as close as you'll get in the near future.
