hey everyone! ive been working on my first cosplay and have been hunting down accurate clothing that best matches the character im trying to replicate.

i found this sweater on ebay and it is EXACTLY what im after in terms of look... (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=290316863728 ) however... its a womens small, so fitting into it means ill tear it like the incredible hulk once i put it on. it says its by J. Crew, but their site had nothing like this item.

can anyone help me out here? does anyone know where to find this particular model of sweater in a large maybe? i would be GREATLY appreciative of your help!

thank you!

Ian

What character are you portraying? Does it need to be sleeveless? If so, you can always just cut up a mens sweater. If you're worried about it fraying, you can just sew a straight stitch where you are going to cut it, and trim the excess off, but leave the straight stitch on the body of your sweater.

its Angeal from Final Fantasy VII. i also need help with finding someone who can make an accurate wig.

here are a few caps...

Look for a turtleneck in the mens section, and sew around where you want to trim the sweater off. The sweater will not fray as long as you don't cut through your sewing line. If you use the same colored thread, you won't really see the stitches.

OR you could just knit it yourself. It's a simple rib stitch, so you can work the sweater in the round from the bottom up and shape the armholes. How many knits or purls you have in to create the ribbing would depend on the weight of your yarn.

Hey Ian!

My wife is pretty good at sewing, and she said that you should find a seamstress in your area who could probably knock that out in a single day. It's an easy pattern, and the sleeveless part makes it much easier. Plus, you can get him or her to use any color you want.

Do you know any local seamstresses? Or, are they listed in the phone book or yellow pages? Maybe the paper.

If all else fails, ask the little old ladies at your church! LOL Or a local church if you don't go.

Good luck! I hope you get your costume pieces!

That looks simple enough. I would get a simple ribbed-knitted sweater and modify it. Rip (with a seam ripper) the sleeves off and zigzag around the edge. Then sew together the sleeves to make a turtleneck if there isn't one already.
A lot of other pieces of this costume look more difficult.

The wig looks simple enough that you can probably make it yourself. Go to a wig shop and get something as close to it as possible. You will probably have to trim some of the hair yourself to get it to style that way, and you will probably have to augment parts of it, especially the widow's peak area, but you could probably snip parts of wigs together and patch it yourself.
