Please Help Me Understand Ninth Gate!

I have watched Ninth Gate 3 times on TV. However, I can never understand or figure out the last few minutes of the movie.

Please help me with the following:

A) Who is the girl supposed to be? Demon or and a Angle?

B) What to make out of the pages of the book with the picture of the girl by the gate?

C) What is happening on the final scene where Jonny Depp is walking to the gate?

She's a demon basically jockying for his soul.

The page is representing her as the guardian of the power of the 9th gate, or the soul-ticket taker. She's really acting more like a bouncer in that she chooses him over the crazy old guy to get the power of the 9th gate.

The end is him giving up his soul to temptation (sexy sexy demon temptation) and power.

Evil wins.


That's the best as I can recall. It's been a few years so my memory could be a little fuzzy. Now I want to watch this again and Dagon. Man it's been awhile.


EDIT: And the whole scene with the demon at the end was sealing the contract for his soul I think. To quote Dr. Orpheous "His is a Faustian covenant, giving with one hand as he macerates your soul with the other!" Hmmm. Wonder if that should be in all caps.

Dagon sucked me right in. What a tripping movie when you catch it around the beginning-middle and have no idea what it is about. Yeah, I agree about 9th gate. Freaky when her face starts morphing.
