hey guys. i need some help. i havent done this before. can i take a plaster bandage face mold and use plaster to produce a positive?i need cheap cause i am only going to beusing this to size a mask. my friend has already given me the plaster mold of hisface. and i need the ears as well. (idk if that would cause complications.

Yes. Make sure you Vaseline the face cast well. You may need to peel away the bandage to remove if there are undercuts.

Yes, you can use plaster in a plaster bandage mold. You must Vaseline the mold for release, and there is the possibility that the mold is a one-shot deal is there are undercuts or any kind of lock. It all depends on how strong the plaster bandage mold is. If it is just the face, it will release just fine.

You need the "Ears"? not sure what this means. Are the Ears in the plaster bandage mold? Fine, with proper release, the ears will come out, but the mold won't. The Ears are NOT part of the mold, but need them to be part of the positive? Meaning that they need ot be added to the casting. That is harder. Not sure.

the best plaster, if available is Hydrocal, and NOT Plaster of Paris (which is very soft)

clonesix by needing the ears I guess I should explain. In making an Army of Two mask and my friend lives up north I'm making the positive so I can guarentee the mask will fit him and around his ears as the mask ends just behind the ears. So I don't need the detail as much as just a ear size mound

And this is a one time mold so the hardness isn't a huge deal

I've had better luck with Turtle Wax ( the green paste kind). You can buff it a bit after it dries, which seals the mold a little better... plus there's no greasy mess to worry about.
