Planning a "Black Swan" costume

Yes I want to make the tiara next, but I'm not sure how to yet. :rolleyes

So the corset is pretty much done, although it needs some more rhinestones and feathers.

And that is the result:

:)

Personally I'd get a pre-made tiara (metal would probably work best!) hold it over a hot flame and let it warp in the heat - there doesn't seem to be any kind of pattern to the one she's wearing in the promo photos that I've seen, and you know it'll be unique!

Otherwise, just get some dark jewellery wire from a craft shop and go nuts with it yourself :)

Nice job on the corset! I've used that pattern and it's very adaptable for a variety of "necklines" etc. (sweetheart, straight, deeper plunge sweetheart etc.) If you like the way it fits you....be sure to make notes about what you did and keep the pattern (I laminated mine) so you can use it over and over.

Best of luck with the rest of your build!

Thank you all!! :$ I agree the corset pattern is very good - I might use it for another costume soon.

So here's the end result of the Black Swan costume. I didn't have good white make-up and the tiara is only a quick wire + tin foil version, but I'll leave it at that for now. :rolleyes Need some time away from all the tulle...

I just now saw this post. I don't know if it would help, but if I have time in the near future, I'll stop by the Rodarte display here in LA and see if I can snap a couple of good pics for ya.

Thank you Annathema! :$

@Filmmaker
Thanks so much for the offer, but I'm pretty much done with the costume.

@James Kenobi
Not at all! I found it more difficult to find white make-up that works on my skin and doesn't make me look like a clown. :rolleyes My eyes looked like this for the photoshoot:

I would just like to say, as a professional ballet dancer, your tutu is pretty friggin' legit! Beautiful job! I'm planning to be black swan for halloween too. Luckily I own a black rehearsal tutu so I only have to add the feathers, but now I know I def have some serious competition for this costume idea. Especially with creative geniuses like you running around :) Wonderful <3

Oh wow, that means a lot coming from a professional ballet dancer!
Thank you so much! :$

I hadn't expected that people would actually like that costume :)

That would be a hilarious costume for an overweight guy! You did great and the costume looks great on you! :cool:thumbsup

How did you keep the Tutu flat. I am attempting a pancake tutu using the same method where you have several layers of tulle and reduce the grade for each layer but mine keeps dipping down like a petticoat skirt. Any advice?
