Pirate Skull

I had an old Lindberg skull sitting in the bottom of my filing cabinet for years. This year I took it out and decided to do something with it--

I spent about $9 at Michaels on the jewelry. The cap is just white muslin gone over with Krylon Banner Red spray paint. The leather band is cardboard with different tones of brown acrylic paint, mainly used as glazes. The paint on the skull itself is just white primer and thin washes of browns and blacks-- and white. Black washes were used to not only suggest mold stains, but also increase the shadow value in good light. Some of the thinner black washes do not show up in the photos, unfortunately. They really do the trick!

The mug is just for size reference!

Looks great! Only thing that looks slightly off to me is the teeth - too clean. Maybe give them a very light yellow/brown wash and a touch of satin or gloss lacquer?

I will probably do the teeth later. I didn't do them now because they need a lot of clean-up. And I'd really rather use prosthetic teeth than what came with this plastic skull!
