pics of Death Star Detention block Camera needed.

I have cast two lenses in clear resin, but i'm going to order a different type as this stuff takes days to harden. I need to practice getting the depth of color right, for this amount of color I used a tiny bit of pigment on a toothpick. I will order green and red pigment when I order the resin. I also had another viewer turn up today :)

They will look alot better when I get the color right. Would you be happy if I make them in one piece with a painted Bezel or would you want the bezel as a separate piece? I made the Aerial for fun and I know it's not the right size but it only took me five minutes. I used a plastic syringe, the pipe from inside a kitchen cleaner trigger bottle ans a wooden dowel.

wonderful!!!

so you already have five all blue slideviewers?
I TRIED to find a matching color, but boy...that off-blue is hard to find or to mix

Markus

:lol No, I only have two all Blue ones and they are different Blues. When I was working out the parts for my SGU control wheel run I couldn't match the blue on the disc. I spent lots of cash on different paints and even tried mixing the color myself. Then someone told me about a local company that specializes in car paint. I took the disc to them and two hours later they had filled two Aerosols with the exact color.

I think a two piece configuration would certainly look more authentic - but I'm not sure how easy it is for you? There is some really good chrome spray paints out there right now as well - but nothing beats having the parts dipped in chrome. :)

I bite the bullet and ordered a few cans of 1K acrylic spraypaint, matched to one of my viewers (had to decide between the various blues and chose the lighter one).

Mixing/ delivery might take a few days, but once I receive the paint I´ll finally be able to procced with my build.
MAYBE the lenses are ready for order until then ;) I´d be IN for a set (green, yellow, red, blue) for sure!

Still have to figure out the best way to modify the backsides of the slide-viewers for attaching them to the mounting-plate.
I think removing the "lip" should be sufficient, then I´ll create a template for drilling 4 holes per viewer and screw these to the plate.

What's better than one camera? two cameras, and I have two more viewers coming for a third:D

I am planning my prop room/man cave and am thinking of mounting them like this but closer together and using them as the main lights.

In the back of the viewers I'm thinking of adding color changing LED strip with remote control, but using white lights inside the panel lights on the top and bottom so they will always be the same.

WHOA! What a great pic! Are you going to hang them from the ceiling? (edit: didn't see the text between photos)

It would make a heck of a security camera :)

VERY COOL :)
Adding this to my man-cave is my plan as well!

Have the six I´d need and a few cans of custom-mixed paint....BUT here´s another problem I ran into:
The paint I had mixed "eats" the plastic of the viewers, making them matte and somewhat "pitted" instead of shiney :cry

Anyway, I think I put it on the backburner until there´s a run of the lamps and bezels...that´d give me the motivation to proceed with the build ;)

I am busy packing up my workshop ready for a house move in three weeks, and then it will be another few weeks before I'm up and running again. I will make a mold for the lights so I can make ten at a time. I am thinking of using polyester as this gives a lot more time to get any bubbles out of the mold. The resin will be tinted with Transparent pigment. I will buy a table top oven so I can post cure them so they will be nice and hard, then paint the Bezels with Alcad.

I had some good luck this week and won a brand new lens on Ebay.

It wasn't until it arrived today that I realized it was a lot bigger than the other ones I had.

The others are 45 mm wide and the new one is 64 mm. I think I remember that larger ones were also used on some films and shows. I am 99% sure they are made by the same company. The big bonus about the big lens is that the makers name is underneath.:D I have sent the company an email to see if they still have some old stock of them.

Hi Andy, your new lamp is found on the IT-O Interrogation Droid. Looks to be an original too. Great purchase! It's the type used in everything else Sci-Fi that doesn't use the smaller type. Very cool.

Thanks for the info. It was a replacement from an RAF battery trolley unit that supplied power for aircraft on the ground. I'm sure it was used in a lot of military Equipment. Glad it's still a prop item :)
