Gone but not forgotten.
Hey all... been a while since I posted in the prop zone, so I hope this fits here, it should seeing how most the pics are of the various props on display -- it was like a dream being there.

And let me just say 2 weeks in Tokyo going crazy with events and trying to make it to model and toy shops with odd hours is something I should do every year -- I lost weight. My son (5) was filmed outside the arena hall waiting to get in for Special Night and was actually on Japanese Television News.

The Ultraman festival was pretty special this year seeing as how it's Ultra's big 40th. One thing I never knew was that Ultraman was inspired by Dr Who. An Alien who befriends an earthling.

Anyhow, I'm only going to post a few pics at first because I'm still goign through them all and I want to see if people are interested in seeing more.

First up, the show began with the surviving cast (minus one) of the original Ultraman series as well the Dan Mooribushi (Ultra 7) on stage together. From left to right we have

Ultra 7, Fuji. Don't know his name, but man was it a big deal when he walked out - he was the original Kamen Rider, Sasume Kerobe (Hyata), Ito, and Ultraman -- people were cheering like crazy.[attachmentid=9565]

Next up is a variety of pics from Ultraman's one surviving shoe to 2 remainging Science Patrol uniforms Ultra suits and (my favorite) a 22 inch long Jet Beetle - that I wanted badly. Enjoy[attachmentid=9567] [attachmentid=9568] [attachmentid=9569] [attachmentid=9570] [attachmentid=9571] [attachmentid=9572] [attachmentid=9573] [attachmentid=9574]

Like I said - I have a slew ot pics much better than these just need to go through them all. Let me know what you think. It really was a great time.

Man, I need to buckle down and pick up on Ultraman Nexus again...

I was a huge Ultraman fan as a kid. Hell, at 20 I'm watching Sentai and Kamen Rider, so I don't think I'll ever outgrow that kid in me :)

Great pics.

That sounds like it was a very cool convention. I grew up watching the original series Ultraman. I have allways wanted a studio scale model of the Jet Beetle.

You bet.

The new movie comes out on Sept 16th titled Ultraman Mebius and the Ultra Brothers.

They reuinite all the early Ultras and the newest one for a monster battle.

And Nick, yeah, I can't figure out how many color types were used for the Beta Capsule. The one in the pic I posted was the one used in the new movie, which is nothing more than a vinyl toy that came out in 2001 from M1 - they hollowed out the top and added a strobe.[attachmentid=9575]

Hey Jet,
Thanks for sharing.

Loved this show. Wish more was available dubbed/subtittled.

For all you Ultrafans out there, check out:

Great pictures. I wish I could've gone to the big Kamen Rider & Sentai Hero show they had a month or so ago...

I thought that was based on the M1 toy. I have one with an extra top which I've been thinking about cutting into, now that I've seen this photo....hmmmmmmm.

Glad you had a chance to go to this - and thank you for posting your report. That's really cool that they had as many cast members there as they did (from the original).

And it's particularly fortunate for me, because I just won one of the Hasegawa VTOLs from eBay, but it was missing the rocket parts on the wingtips. Your shot of the 22 inch model is most helpful.

As to the Dr. Who inspiration, I just caught one of the older episodes on YouTube (the Dada critter who could change sizes). That episode felt like it was directly addressing the Dr. Who feel.

Any weapon props on display?
