Petition for a special edition/directors cut release of the original TMNT movie

Hey guys,

With the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and the 30th anniversary of the original Mirage comics happening in 2014, I figured the hype would help get some attention towards getting a long deserved special edition\directors cut of the original 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie.

This petition is to get a full special edition/directors cut release of the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. There have been several DVD/Blu-ray releases, but we are yet to see any deleted scenes or anything that would be considered special features.There are scenes portrayed in the comic book adaptation of the film that were filmed, that are not included in the theatrical release. We have seen behind the scenes photos of extended scenes and scenes that were in the original script that have clearly hit the cutting room floor for either censorship or time management. But they were filmed and every good Turtles fan should want to see them!

Well, there was a petition a few years back to get a DVD with deleted scenes intact for the 20th anniversary of the movie.

I think I remember that, I think it was around 2006? I think the momentum from the new Nick series and the new movie can have this become a bit more of a possibility. Plus social media is a lot more popular now, so that is a plus. They released a half done version in Germany a few years back, but nothing for the English viewer. It can't hurt to try. It literally takes seconds to fill out the petition and like & share on Facebook.

I think the closest we'll get (if anything) is a re-release with deleted scenes in the extras menu. Unfortunately.

How many deleted scenes exist? Are they true deleted scenes or just extended scenes? I know about the extra stuff from the farm but that's about all I do know.

Check out the Facebook link i posted, I posted most of what I have\know there. I will be ordering the German copy of the film in the next few days to check out the commentary to see if there is anything else they missed in the film.

Haha indeed. Maybe there is a deleted scene where the Shredder gets his brain removed just prior to becoming theSuper Shredder and essentially killing himself.

I'd love a special edition release of this film - don't much care about the other two as they are fine as they are - but with commentary, extended/deleted scenes, possibly a different cut of the movie (unrated!?). I've considered getting the German DVD release, but I already have the movie on DVD and would rather have it on BR with extra features. Also, if it needs restoring, they should have the company that did the new restoration of The Terminator do it, as they did a bang up job with a very grainy movie and made it awesome - they would be perfect for something like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as many other companies may go way overboard with DNR and smoothing and removing the grain, thus losing detail.

Also... your petition should, imo, be expanded to also wanting the original John Du Prez score from the movie released!

Oh man, how good is that score? I really just want to see the deleted scenes edited back in. A good commentary. A few mini doco's. I believe there is a restored bluray version. I would really like to see this out for the 25th anniversary of the film!

There's another film on the way.. makes sense they'd probably re-release the originals to build up hype for the new one. Whether it'll have everything you're looking for, who knows.

I was really dissapointed with the box set they put out a few years ago, for the 25th birthday of the Turtles. They just gave the crappy old dvds new artwork.
