Pepper Potts Rescue build, 10/15 full suit pics added

Re: Pepper Potts Rescue build

So I have to ask, what is this recent masking tape craze? I keep seeing foam builds covered in masking tape and I am super confused with what is happening there.

The thing is if i use masking tape on my foam. It gets damaged :s

Re: Pepper Potts Rescue build

great Laellee :D any chance to do the same to the eyesofsauron´s extremis pep file? http://www.therpf.com/f24/eyeofsaur...vie-armors-power-rangers-red-hood-etc-151288/ The armor don´t fit in a human body without lost proportion :(

I actually built that armour a year ago, JFCustoms actually edited a file on my thread that is designed for human sizes!

Heres the link to my thread

Oh yes I noticed that as well. I know some people are actually taping their pieces together before gluing on the backside to get the seams tight and clean... If it works, great, but that would amount to a lot of tape I'd think.
I used the tape on the faceplate just to hold it tight to the helmet seam while I reinforce the faceplate on the inside; I bend and install metal wire 'stringers' on the inside of the faceplate to strengthen and reinforce the shape. Once installed, I can pull the tape and 'finish-bend' the wire sections to fine tune them. I haven't added the reinforcements yet, so for now it's literally keeping me from misplacing one :)
I also join seams with masking tape that I'm going to add velcro connections or elastic to later. I held off on gluing the strap-connection of the chest because it may change with the reactor design. I hate pullin' glued foam apart.... :)

Depends on the foam and the tape I think. I use 3M masking tape because I've worked with it for years. Your best bet is to test tapes on a piece of foam to see if it will tear away at the foam surface or if it will leave adhesive deposits too. A lot of masking tapes won't leave transfer at first, but a day later their bond can really start to increase and cause problems with removable. Rule of thumb for me has always been leave tape on for as short a time as possible. I've had to reclean automotive finishes more times than I care to admit because I didn't stick to that simple motto.

SO much more amazing than my slipshod cardboard work. Brilliant.

Thanks! Nothing wrong with cardboard though, especially when you can get it for free :)

Re: Pepper Potts Rescue build

wearing that to convergence??

Sorry cougar, I have no idea what convergence means. You are from Andover, though, apparently, which honestly puts you about half an hour from me ( i'm in WI) So outside of you wanting to find a pumpkin patch (for CONVERGENCE) to run through with a grown man (which as I type it sounds even creepier), probably not the best idea, please clarify(as I think more it's just Children of the Corn)

Looking really great, really clean and detail my friend love it

It needs A LOT of work though before I'm happy, thanks for saying yes so far....I get angry over foolish things, I think you'll be more than happy.

Re: Pepper Potts Rescue build

love it !!!

Briciiius, I model a lot of stuff, I freehand a lot of stuff, and I do my best to create a lot of original stuff. This is a very wicked critical crowd, judgemental as any to pick apart your ideas and directions, both in good and bad ways. Thanks for chiming in on my build. The build I know you from is purely you being confident about your approach, and creating what you were happy about. Amazing work, appropriate work, and even the difficult critics here couldn't bitch too much. Thanks for popping in. :)

Re: Pepper Potts Rescue build

Ugh, fighting an exceptionally nasty cold right now, but between regular work and this, still trudging along...

I finished the biceps up, except for one seam in case I need to adjust anything. These are a really interesting shape, ties in surprisingly well with the armor design despite (or perhaps because of) its Halo roots... It's weird build for a smaller person, I look at the sizes and they look all goofy until I double check measurements. :D

Forearms.... Nothing too exciting to see here, I do like the extended covers to shield the outer elbow. I need to also work up a couple of hand plates, likely the mk iv/vi style two-piece setup to help the transition from forearm to gloves.

And lastly, the shoulder bells. These look sharp I think, that double-prong design under a traditional bell shape... The inner piece has no real support system in the pep, so I think I may add arms to allow it to swivel independently of the outer bell. Either that, or build an inner floating mount to keep from cluttering up the inside too much.

I'm confident with my scaling and measurements, but I kind of want to mock up a mannikin anyways just so I can see all of the pieces together as they'll look worn. Gets old having to take pics of these completed suits in a prone position just laying on my bed :facepalm:lol

Thanks for look'n.

Double post... Lesson learned, trying to post while the RPF is down for maintenance....

Thanks! I think I've got it down to a science, but it is TEDIOUS if anything :lol Beats the hell out of trying to clean up sloppy gluing later though :thumbsup

...and on to the shins, about 1/2 done.....

I noticed the strength you're talking about already. I built the top half of the calf section in the pic, then the bottom, then kind of 'rolled and glued' that seam... I was a little concerned with the bevelled cut and sharp angle between the halves at the rear that I might need to reinforce. Uhh, NO... :lol
Did you have to modify the shins at all to make it slip on? I think these should be fine to get a foot through without adding a opening seam.
