Penciling in a mustache

So I'm about done gathering parts for my Dread Pirate Roberts costume (I found pants that I can take in).
I could use some suggestions for what I should get to pencil in the mustache to complete the look. I don't really want to grow mine back just for a day or two in the costume.
What's good to use??

crepe hair and telesis 5 would be a good choice, i use it for my doc holliday costume.

look up hand laid beards and mustaches on how to do it. you glue the hair on starting from the corner of your mouth and work your way in. you want to glue the ends of the hair so they look like the are coming out of the skin, you will in up with a long bushy mustache. then trim the hanging hair to the shape you want like trimming a real nustache.

when applying the mustache try to keep the ends in the shape of the mustach you are going for.

once you do it a couple of times you can do a believiable mustache in about 10 mins.

yep.

unbraid about 2 inches of it and iron it out with the steam setting on the iron. you want to buy more than one color. no ones hair is all the same color.

cut off the 2 inches you ironed out. and use that. glue some down let dry and very gentle pull the batch in your hand off and repeat. you are leaving the glued hair on and pulling the loose hair away.

Glue right to my face, correct??

I would assume the 1.5 oz bottle of telesis 5 would let me do a mustache several times??

Thanks for the info Tom!!

What about spirit gum?? What's the difference between that and Telesis??

you are welcome.

yes after you have iron some crepe out and mixed with another similar color.

some guys use a hackle to blend the colors.

spirit gum will work. i just use telesis 5 becuase i like it. dries real fast and clear.

i would look up some vidos on youtube to show exactly what i am talking about before attempting.

but once youy have the idea , it is pretty easy.

here is a pretty good book on fx makeup /

special makeup effects for stage and screen by todd debreceni

don't forget to get some remover for whatever type of adhesive you choose.

Just some black makeup or even graphite from a pencil gives me great results for my videos. I just take some on a Qtip and draw it right on.

Good luck!

i would ask the place where you are buying what they recommend. i used different stuff and have had mixed results.....

If you don't want to deal with getting multiple colors of crepe hair and the ironing and all that, just ask for your hair back after you get it cut. I cut my own hair about 2 years ago and saved it for beards. Best possible way to match the color and it's real human hair.

I assume I would then glue it on the same way??
Cool idea. I just got my hair cut, but will need it done again before wearing the costume.
Thanks for the tip!!

Yea, I have yet to upgrade from spirit gum to telesis 5, but if I plan on holding down a job this semester I'm going to need to do so before May. (can't spend 3 months growing out the Sparrow again.)

Years ago in theatre class I had made a mustache as decribed by others on this thread. The only difference is I used liquid latex to glue the crepe hair in place. In this fashion, I could use it more than once, since I coud peel it off, and it would take less time to reapply than recreating it each time I needed to use it.
