Lostcasket and I are both working on replica Clockys. Here is mine with dummy paper arms and eyes. Trying to figure out how to make the arms spin fast but still in the correct minute faster than hour. I've come up with a concept with a geared Tamiya motor and a gutted clock mech but the clock mech doesn't handle speed or pressure as its made to go slow. Am I over thinking this or is ther a easy way to make a clock spin fast?
you could probably use those little electric motors from radio shak....it would probably spin pretty quick
or if you wanted to get complicated with it you could use servos
and then program a micro controler to spin it at different speeds....but you'd have to find a nerdy kid with programing skills to program the mico controler for you!
Thanks for the ideas. It's easy to make them both spin fast. But to actually make the minute hand go faster you have to use the gears. I need to find a set of metal clock gears. The servos would work if you could use two somehow. But ya I'm not nerdy enough to figure that one out. Those clock kits have weak little plastic gears. How could a get a heavy duty like set?
Thanks! I just used my original design for now. The cheap clock mech mated to the tamiya geared motor it's a little loud but not to bad. The foam quieted it down some. Got a hidden off on at the Florida part.
Thanks and No Abe but I'll have to check it out. Mines still hanging in my living room. Need to find a better spin mech also as mine has started to skip at times. Thinking a belt drive from a old cassette player
