Paintninja's 2nd suit WIP

Ok, so it's been a minute since I've updated this.

Well I'm still working on it, I've since upgraded my kilt and some other stuff.
Rather than finishing the feet as seen above, I decieded to keep sculpting up
to the knee. Pred foot and shin armor in one, like a KISS boot. I've acquired
a Celtic bio that I may wear this year at DC. I've recently finished my custom
gaunt blade top( thread in "the Arsenal"). And lastly I'm upgrading all of my
upper body armor with parts from Andy and Chuck! DC09 is gonna be awesome!

And I promise from here on out to keep it updated and finally post in the
"Completed suit thread"

Pics of finished gaunts and feet/shins coming soon! Thanx for looking!

Paintninja,

Love the suit, those colors on the skin are so vivid if I recall, its fabricpaint on a bodysuit...

(more pix, can't wait to see those kick-alien boots! )

Actually, it's latex mask paint and permawet. Many thanx!

paint ninja, what is your armour made out of? it looks awsome!

LOL, I'm glad you dig it, but it's "GreatStuff" foam insulation sprayed onto a field hockey
chest protector then carved back out with a Dremel. Quite inexpensive and easy to do.
Alas I'm upgrading it to an amalgamation of Ruffkintoy and Mr Fett armour, then
I'll get Jay and his wife to shoot some new shots. Supposed to get with him soon to do
some in my Mander/Ruffkin Alien........drool and all! STOKED!

thats a good idea, was it hardened with sculpta mold? but what about the other armor is that just spray and dremeled?

Sorry for the mixup, I was thinking of the Dragoncon discussion where people were talking about what to wear when in Atlanta at the end of August/beginning of September

So how does it compare to the other skin you have?
(I'm deciding on what to use on my new skin)

All of the armor seen in the pics on page 4 is made from "Greatstuff" foam sprayed onto various athletic gear ie.
shin pads, paintball forearm pads etc. then carved back out with a Dremel. Once done all parts were then "sealed"
with "Plastidip" then primed and painted. The belt and the bio helmet are the only resin or fiberglass pieces used.
When done all new armor will be made from resin, fiberglass or latex rubber. ALWAYS use a respirator when
carving out "Greatstuff" or spraying "Plastidip", waaay bad for your lungs! BE SAFE!

one more question, how much would a unitard be and are they stretchy? i may use one instead of a muscle suit

LOL, if your like me, 6'1" @ 247lbs you'll have a harder time finding it to fit you. I used an XL and yes it's very stretchy.
It should only set you back about $35-$40. www.centerstagedancewear.net located in Fayetteville, Ga. Tell Ms. Sarah
that I sent you, she knows me as Paintninja ,too!

Oh, Yes! I remember now, you're right I did use fabric paint on my first skin. And to compare them............

Well I got a larger size, LOL, so it is more comfortable to wear, but it causes me to sweat more due to greater
coverage of "rubber paint". Both have a phenominal range of movement. The latex skins are detailed texture wise
and look absolutely awesome, but don't allow anywhere near the range of movement and "hotter than homemade hell".
And with a clever paintjob no one's the wiser. Hope this helps!

Paintninja,

Yes it has, it should shorten the build time if the colors go straight on, without layers of latex being first laid down.

those pix get me every time, especially the one partly in shadow

i got tired of my lil airbrush compressor so we finally hooked it up to the 40 gallon compressor in the garage
i should have my suit painted in the next week or so

for the perma wet do you miz that with water

LOOKS AWESOME

Awesome work man! The whip is fantastic! Love the gaunt too and the bio looks great. I've got a Ram bio but dont have a head that fits it yet. Nice to see some people wearing them though.
:)

:) Many humble thanx for kind compliments, really means alot to have my Yautja peers dig it!

looks good! what is going to be your torso armor?

My torso armour is currently being casted by Ruffkintoy, it'll be AVP style torso and backpack.

LOOKS AWESOME

You can thin it with water to make it go further, but I usually use it "as is".
I wouldn't brush it on, it'll leave brush marks or mist it on with a spray bottle for
a spray bottle doesn't usually spray that uniformly. I personally would use an
air brush ( which can be time consuming ) or for a whole suit in one quick job
I used an automotive canister spray gun. It worked great on my Pred skin!

Ok, I cut, sanded and painted my comp top and with the help of the mighty Eiluj,
hooked up the electronics as well! SWEET! Lenses to cover the LEDs w/ Pred glyphs
tomorrow.

With flash to see paint detail

100_2990.jpg

w/out flash to see the LEDs, trying to catch em' on "the blink" for a pic is a
pain the ass! Thank God for digital cameras, otherwise I probably would've
wasted three rolls of film! :) Thanx for lookin!

Lookin' good! I'm loving the fact you're making a light up bomb gauntlet lid. Might have to hire you to make one for my own new suit. :)
