Paint removal

I've got this model gun that I got way back when I was in high school. I had no idea how to paint back then or how to do just about anything related to model work, so it looks terrible. The paint is too thick and poorly chosen and there are bubbles and rough sections that I never cleaned up. Basically I'd just like to know, what is the best way to remove paint from a model made of resin and aluminum?

I can sand most of the parts clean, but some of the detailed parts, like stamped writing on the barrel, will be worn off completely if I do so. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

try oven cleaner first. If not something like laquer thinner will work on resin, but keep contact to a minimum. It will start to damage the resin.

I don't have any oven cleaner. I tried paint thinner and it had no effect whatsoever.

I can't remember what the base was, it was a small automotive spray can from wal-mart from about 5 years back. Can the simple green damage the resin?
