Paint/Pesticide Respirator

Hi all,

I was 'dremelling' some resin last night, when it struck me that my paint/pesticide respirator may not offer enough protection from airborne particulates.

Its one of the $30 or so respirators (paint/pesticide) with a filter on each side of your mouth.

Is this sufficient protection for 'dremelling' resin?

That should work fine - Resin dust is a particulate & that should stop anything getting in your lungs - What that won't work for is gases & vapours.

What does the cartridge say? N100, P100, N95, Organic vapor?

Looks like an AO Safety brand (home depot)? Decent brand, readily availble, good choice for an inexpensive yet durable mask.

Is it fit tested for you?

I can't answer your question with any kind of accuracy without knowing these.

I sell this stuff for a living (First aid and Safety), and pour resin, and I am intimately familiar with the MSDS for the resin I use, knowing whats what will let me be able to tell you . . . "You SHOULD be safe".

I do highly reccommend wet sanding where possible, and dispose of the slurry before it dries out and as per previous discussion don't vaccum up your dust without wearing something like this, your vaccum puts right back into the air the smallest particles that your body has difficulty getting back out of your lungs.

OSHA reccomneds where possible "dilution" of the threat vapors and solids, think venting, think fan, think open windows or beter yet garage door.

And, for the argurers out there, yes, you can sand resinn without a mask for years with no adverse affect, and that may be your experience, but you can also sand resin for the first or second time and wind up in th hostital with hives, migranes and respritory distress.
