So going to try and do a gender bend Mei and and completely baffled on how to make her gun and backpack. Any thoughts this would be my biggest build to date so a bit overwhelmed.

Hmm. I haven't played this game yet. The front pieces of the gun look like clear plastic? My first thought was vacuforming. There's a good thread talking about vacuforming clear stuff here: http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=63410
Her backpack looks like it's main component could just be a big mason jar with some extra bits tacked on, or if that's too heavy and you want to be fully accurate, just vacuform that too. The rest of the main gun/pack pieces could probably be built up with foam/wood. If you actually got a kind of rubber hose it'd be heavy, so reinforcing the areas where it fixes to the gun and pack would be important so the thing wouldn't tear itself apart.

Old thread, but maybe you will see this.

I would build the backpack thing out of foam. Super easy to make and light weight.

You can do the gun out of foam also. There are some tutorials online for making foam weapons. I am planning on doing a short run casting the gun if you are interested.

little late on this but yea if the price is not super high i might be interested. I was also thinking about foam but the problem i always have is the blueprint faze as it were. And also when you say foam are you talking about EVA foam or like insulation? Sorry for all the questions just started dipping my feet into this

Hi, I'm in the works as well for an overwatch cosplay. (soldier 76).

Tackling the blueprint part at the moment. Followed some basic illustrator tutorials online and started going at it. It really helps for more then measurements and scale alone. I really get a good feeling on how the pulse rifle fits together, and how the designer went trough his thought process on the different parts.

And even without illustrator skills, there is always pen and paper. I really suggest you start by making a blueprint. Making the prop will be so much easier if you have something to check your scale and positioning with. There should be a ref image from Blizzard with just the gun. You could trace that.

(here is an example of my work in progress on the blueprint, please ignore the youtube vid that I was watching its the only screen i have @work)

On materials, My opinion would also be heavy dense eva foam with a wooden core. you should check out Kamui cosplay video's on youtube she show's this method well on her Fallout and Nova (starcraft) rifle.

Can't wait to see your progress.

I tried looking for the reference kit for men and i can't seem to find any maybe i am blind but sadly everyone else is their but her

Thanks for the info Hopli, and internal i am going to try my best for the LEDs. there is part of me thinking i could use a clear or semi clear bucket or garbage can for a base on the backpack. As for the gun we shall see i am really going to try and figure the gun out, perhaps use some foam as said before. But that is the hardest part for me
