Original stormtrooper suit auctioned at Christies

Ok

How did the guy get the suit?

Once again cropped from the catalogue :

Really? I don't think that is surprising at all. I would have expected about $250k.

The estimate was between 8 to 10k with it being a bit of a miss match that and the fact that not so long ago a vader suit didn't even make the reserve.

And they say replicas reduce the value of originals.:rolleyes

Seeing this result id say Simons suit is a sure $500 000.:love

They really botched the estimate. Many of us could have bought it for that.

Im not surprised at all by the price.. A Stormtrooper is now a part of pop culture and always will be.

I'm hoping that other people with original suits they may be hiding will be tempted to sell and bring them out into the light of day so everybody can see them and enjoy them. It`s alot of money to be tempted with.I just wish I had the cash to spend on something like this.I could always sell my house I guess.:rolleyes

From the lot description:

"believed to be elements made for both of the first two films of 20th Century Fox/Lucasfilm Star Wars trilogy...."

If the description said, "a Stormtrooper costume used in the film, "Star Wars", I could see the $321,422 selling price. The "believed to be" description is not definitive, so for me, the lot was not worth the selling price.

Not that it matters since the bidders thought otherwise :).

It is my (very strong) opinion, and the opinion of other's I hold in high regard, that the suit sold was a combination of original screen used pieces, and pieces that were not used in the films but rather for promotional purposes.

.

Seems unlikely someone paying that much for it, wouldn't know what they were getting.

And just because the two right people were in the room this time does not guarantee future results.

Auctions can be a crap shoot.

surely whoever sold it is going to cop for capitol gains tax which i think is 28%, possibly more the government were thinking of putting it up to 40%

:eek........ I would never have thought this particular suit would have gone for this much!

Well I never!
