Hello everyone,
I'm a new member and wanted to say "Hello" to everyone. Some people here know me and some don't but I'm glad to be a part of this board and will be showing some of my work in the future.
I recently sculpted and built up four life-size Boris Karloff pieces, three in true color and one in a black and white paint scheme. It took several months to sculpt the head, mold the arms and sculpt the boots. I wanted to be as realistic as possible within reason. I contacted Sara Karloff to ask her about her fathers boots he wore in the film. From looking at close up photos of his boots from the original 1931 film you can see what appears to be silver or light colored tape and glue wrapped all the way around the boot...I believe they took two boots and cut them into one and taped and glued them back together. Sara said her father wore 1 1/2inch lifts to make him taller. Being 5 foot 11 to begin with it appears the iconic monster was only around 6 foot 2 on the set.
I wanted something different and special for my piece so I designed and built a 2 x2 foot base for him to stand on. I built in vintage looking lights with a hidden dimmer switch which is the round bolt on the front of the base. He's even chained down so he can't get loose.
The head has high quality prothstetic eyes and custom neck bolts. The arms are cast from my own with added veins for realism. This piece is almost to scary to keep in the house especially at night with a dim light on him.
The photos below are my piece along side my custom Jacobs ladder and the other is a customers monster he purchased from me.
