Opinions on Vader CA Mods

It was pretty scary, but it cut like butter, the cutting only took about 20 minutes. It was the tedious pushing the mount down, putting a bit of glue on, testing how it looks, pulling apart, reapply more glue phase that wasnt fun, that took about 3 hours. Definetely worth it though. Go for it Qui and post pics too :)

Very nicely done. :thumbsup This is one the reasons that I had recently bought a CA....gonna give this mod a try.

HOLY COW. you guys have done an amazing job on your helmets :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

I'm trying to resist the urge to upgrade my CA but with the awesome helmet's in this thread it's tempting to give it a go.

Cheers,

Kraig

do you guys think that lucas wants the comanies to make things a bit off?

i mean, its wierd that you can take something like the CA, cut something put the dome back, and it makes a 110% differance.

AWESOME buckets guys...

how close is the CA to the newer deluxe supreme rubies?

This is what I have to work with. I like the neck flare on it, as it isn't too drastic, as others I have seen. I am still skeered to cut into the thing, despite how other CAs have turned out here.

Actually that neck looks really good to me...I'm not sure if I trimmed a tiny bit off my original DP CA helmet back in 1999 when I got it so I could turn my head better in costume...not sure if I did it before or after these pics...but if I did, it was just a small amount in the rear of the neck, like 1/4inch.

I miss my DP CA :cry Looking back, I think it still is one of the best licensed helmets ever to come out...I like it more than the DP deluxe...the finishing work on the DP Deluxe seems to have softened things out a tad bit more than on the CA, which is unfinished vinyl...

Can you show a side view from either side? I'd be able to tell better if it should be trimmed...

Here are some side views. I am not a shutterbug, so this is what ya gets...

Oh, and I forgot last time, but thanks to Wackychimp for hosting my fumble fingered attempts at photos.

That looks really good Qui...I wouldn't touch it...the shape is very good...the length is right there....I would leave it be and if you need to do the heat shaping a little you could to bring it in but even in front view it looks very good to me...thanks for posting those...nice to see side views like that of the DP CA since it's been a while since I've had one in hand...

Hey Shabaaz

The pics of your conversion are gone...
I´m about to modify my own CA and would appreciate if you could repost them :)

My problem is that I already made the needed cuts and repositioned the mounting "T" with tape....
BUT the dome sits away too far from the face/ nose of Vaders mask so I might need to lengthen the cuts to the very end of the "T".

Help?

Thanks in advance.

Markus

Well I cut it down even MORE, and now it looks absolutely beautiful :) I will take some pictures outside tomorrow, but for now theres this one I just took to give you an idea of how good a CA can look with a lot of tedious work :)

And here she is with her dome off, not pretty at all, but I intend to make it look nice there someday, until then it will do, and as the above pic attests, its worth it...

Nice....do you know by how much that you lowered the mount? Really wanna give this a shot on my old CA...

Is that the original CA dome?

I have to admit that I'm impressed with the improvement. :thumbsup

Looks like an original dome to me. The CA was a fantastic helmet. I am glad I got mine when they came out. As a layman's look, it looks like Thrawn lowered his dome from the 1 3/4" that the mount originally sits to 1/2". I could be wrong, but it looks close to me.

I dont even know how much I lowered it, but since most vader helmets are painted the same way, you can just push the mount down to where it meets the black lines in my side pics (if you are going for the same look). Also, I didnt do exactly what shabaaz did, I cut the entire dome mount off and then pushed it down, so its not even attached at the front. If you leave it attached at the front, it pushes the dome forwards too much, and you get a 1 1/2" gab between the eye sockets and the peak of the dome. Pics to Follow.

And yes NoHumorMan, it is the original dome. I didnt really do any measurements on it to find out how much to lower it, I just pushed it down, taped it, took a pic to see if it looked good, then adjusted.
