Maybe it wasn't even his helmet :rolleyes

...j/k, a little reverse psychology. :lol

Maybe it was his helmet :lol I was just poking fun, bro. Good mods. Thanks for the detailed explanation, too. I figured I wouldn't be able to duplicate your mods, but I did try duplicating the effect. Check out the link in my sig. :thumbsup

Well i started modding my CA helmet like Shabaaz's..
Man is he right.. it can get really messy. My fingers are now sore from trying to cut through the thick vinyl with a knife..
Will post some WIP pics soon..

When you do this, is it possible to maybe glue the inside and lightly tweak the outside of the cuts so as to have clean seams? Granted, no one will see under the dome, but I am anal about those kinds of thing. I want a smoother spot to put the paint and all so nothing can flake the paint, if that is possible.

If you have something like a dremel tool to cut with then you could make cleaner more accurate cuts and possibly have it fit together cleanly. On top of that you could put some filler in the gaps to get everything smooth. I was lazy and in a hurry so I never bothered to finish it up nicely. I just put gobs of glue on the thing so it stays solid.

I'm glad you posted your mod job shabazz, i mess around with rubies myself and i planed on chaning the mounting system on a rubies.
Now that i have seen what you have done, i'm going to try my hand at it :D

It can be very time consuming to do it right.

My own Rubies mod was my first ever project. Im pleased overall with the results but I do plan to do another one in the future and I will take my time and learn from my previous mistakes.

Ok guys.
Here are some pics of my modified CA helmet.
Thanks to Shabaaz for the important tips..

Looks like your getting there, if it's anything like my rubies you still have a long road ahead. I will give a sneak peek at the rubies i am working on now i am going to re-work the face and re-paint it as soon as my new lenses get here :D
Heres a normal rubies and the way the dome set's

Here is mine with the mods to the dome i'm still working on the mounting system but this is what it is looking like so far with out a neckbrace on it. it's almost where i want it to be.... :confused

Wow, these are gorgeous - goes to show in my mind how accurate the CA is to ESB if one just works with it a bit. Beautiful.

Considering the source, that's a hell of a compliment.

I cannot tell you how impressed I am with the look of this helmet...it is really better than even the Don Post Deluxe....just amazing work...

:cheers,

Id still love to see that mounting system...
By the way, you guys lied to me, it did not look much better before. Last night I ripped out all of its innards, soaked the whole thing in very warm water, shaped it, then put it in some ice water, NOW it looks much better.

Somehow your helmet (dome) is even better proportioned to the faceplate than Shabazz'...just outstanding....

These two helmets have raised the bar to a new height with what can be accomplished with a DP CA...

:cheers,

Thomas

Tonight ive begun the process of Shabazzerizing my CA, if it looked good before, I hope it looks much better after this :)
Wish me luck. Im terrified right now, but the first cut is going in now, no going back....

Finished. Pics to follow later (my sister stole the USB Cable for our camera)
I think I may have gone too far with it, the dome is much lower, and it looks MUCH fuller, but its got kind of an ANH thing going on now. I may raise it more pending opinions...

Anyone on the fence about doing this mod, get off. It was very scary to do, and I was at all times worrying about how it would turn out, but as the following pics can attest, its VERY worth it. I didnt show any pics of the mount itself as its pretty ugly right now, but its solid and keeps the dome in ell enough that it can rest on it. Lots of hot glue up there :) If you had told me last week that right now my CA would be looking like this, id have had you committed. Let me know what you think.
