This is a nice, pretty simple mask/helmet conversion and cheap too! I enjoyed the last one I did (http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=41492) so much I had to have another go! :lol

Original mask as it comes:

This time, rather than just a straight fill, smooth and repaint, I decided to change it from the Lucius Malfoy mask into my own creation. So first thing was to sand off all the raised patterns, fill the forehead speaker slots and built up the indentation between the mouth are and the chin:

After a LOT of additional sanding, primer and a coat of spray paint:

Then I hit it with Rub 'n' Buff. This is the first time I've used this stuff, but I gotta say that the finish is really nice. I found that it does start to come off with continual handling though, and in the long run, would have been better just with paint instead. I think this stage looks very cool though:

I was going to try to engrave patterns into it, but couldn't think of a foolproof way of doing it without messing up, so I decided to emboss patterns instead when I stumbled across these great sticker sheets in my local craft shop. I just picked and chose what looked good where and built it up in a symmetrical style:

Once that was done, it looked good but not weathered enough and much too shiny, so I hit it with some washes and drybrushing to finish it off:

I still need to attach a headband and I'm playing with the idea of adding dark lenses to the eyes - it looks very cool, creepy with shiny black eyes, but I'm not sure if it's too off the Death Eater path.

Very cool indeed. Looks like real metal almost like the man in the iron mask.

Very nice project.

sorry to dig this up, but what did you use to sand the mask? did you have to do it by hand or is it sturdy enough to use a dremel?

Thanks

I used a sanding drum attachment on the dremel. It took the raised patterns off no problem, but I had to do a lot of hand sanding as well to get it smooth. It's a nice sturdy mask.
