OK now, Mods....

... Y'all gotta admit, there are periods of Life happening that by definition do not fall under the TOS rules of the RPF, yes?

I got something I REALLY want to ask about, but because it MIGHT be political, I can't, so **** it... BTW, who on the RPF staff or property ownership are the ones that decide which language is foul and which is not??? And among other things, why should anyone in the US be restricted to their feelings?

Sorry, but if ANYONE knows me, knows I say my piece regardless, so.....

well rules are rules, while we are all here, we have to do what the mods say.. I think that anything political, religious or otherwise could blow up into something really nasty and then what??

and about the language filter, is there really a need to NOT have foul language censored when 99% of us could make out the correct censored word used anyways??

Cant we all just get along??? :)

I rely on the language filter to censor me. If it ain't filtered, I shouldn't draw a warning.

I could have sworn I saw an identical thread on this topic. Weird.

OK, I for the time being, found another outlet for my disconsernation (?)...

Not saying it's entirely on the RPF, but whatever....

Oh, and a robust Hello to micdavis... :rolleyes, just 'cause your used to it...

OK, Sorry, but I have a tendency to let stupid Chit biss me off over time...

Take the original question and the cursing out of the question, and you have...
Nothing...

I would think you censor yourself around kids and others , so whats the problem with on a forum board where there are all ages ? I really don't think anyone needs to cuss or whatever to get a point across. but that's just me

gunner, what specifically is your question? If you are unhappy that the RPF isn't the wild wild west, I don't know what to tell you. Those days are in the past for this site. In regard to language, we have a language filter in place and generally only ding those who purposefully circumvent it. In regard to politics and religion, they are simply flame bait... and do nothing but divide the membership without providing a shred of usefulness that is relative to the hobby. If you have questions aside from those, I will try to answer them. If you just want to complain in general... well, I currently have 72 unread PMs that need answering.

Yeah, sorry Art...

My posts, as much as I would like to put them up here, are pretty much 100% political; the problem and/or issue I currently have with the RPF, is specifically posts made in the "Off Topic" section...

Political/religious/otherwise subjects account for at possibly 80% of off topic posts, but they remain just that, off limits...

Bad thing is, I would truly like to know how the majority of the RPF members think about current issues or events, but almost every subject these days falls under either being Political or Religious; it simply may just be time to do away with filters or censorship, within certain parameters...

OT and other topics simply BEG to allow posts here... For instance, if I were to star in a British Petroleum television commercial, could I not post a link to it here, or would that ultimately be determined as being Political in nature?

I dunno, man. I get kinda tired of all the political and religious arguing so I like knowing I can come here and nobody's gonna be like "well what's it matter what you think, you like Marc Maron". I'm sure there are other places more suited to the politics where people are actually interested in talking about it.

With the religion thing, I find most people's minds are made up just as much as mine is. You never get anywhere with that.

And I say **** more than everyone else I know combined says any curse word. Prop replicas (and art in general) is the one thing I do for fun that I could say "yeah, that'd be good for kids too" so ya kinda need to know where you're at. Not that I'll ever hold back in front of my kid if I ever have one, but I'll have years to explain to that one why he/she can't say these things in public. I'm not about to make my sig on here a disclaimer. So this is probably the one place on the entire internet that I go to where censoring may not be the worst thing in the world. I can always log off if I wanna go off on a blue tirade.

How would being in a BP commercial be political? Would it be a political ad? What is this anti-US stuff you are seeing in the OT forum? How does that even survive? Think I'm missing something here.

I'm for open debate myself. I really wanted to start a thread on that amazing recent discovery regarding Neanderthals. It's not political OR religious and the membership has for the most part been amazing, lately. But eh, I know the discussoin could possibly devolve badly.

Ha ha, pun, devolve, ha ha.

Man, what you have to realize is you are NEVER going to change anyone's mind about their politics OR their religion. Once you do, you realize that those types of debates and topics are utterly pointless.

I certainly understand where you are coming from and it is a bit of a tough decision to have to make from time to time because there are many issues that border on political but aren't inherently political. I hate to put hard boundaries on things, but the overriding idea behind not allowing these topics (and you see these on MANY MANY boards, not just the RPF) is that these topics tend to divide people much more than they bring people together. One might say the same thing about Darth Vader... but at least that relates to the hobby and sometimes there is good or new info that comes from those arguments. When it comes to religion or politics, it is very unlikely that you are going to turn a member of one political party into a member of the other or turn someone who doesn't believe in a higher power into someone who does... instead you are more likely to make them dig their heels in all the harder and create a divide for reasons that have nothing to do with the hobby. One of the great strengths of this site is that we have many people from many varying backgrounds with extremely different experiences. Together we are very strong because we have a little bit of everything represented here, but when we start highlighting and debating those differences, we risk the chance of turning our greatest strength into a liability.

In regard to your question about BP, there is nothing political about the spill or the company or a BP commercial. There is nothing political about supporting them or condeming them. Where it begins to get political is if you were to take the BP spill and create a rant on how President Bush and President Obama are in league with the Mid-East and blah blah blah...
