Official V3 Nike MAG Replica Thread - V3 Discussion Thread

Here's the QC pics. What do you think of them? I've noticed a line on the bottom of the right shoe just above the sole lights running along near the tick. Do you think this is ok? Other than that I think they look good.

The gap on 3rd picture isn't visible in other pic of the left shoe.

They must have an open window to the right. You can see in this picture how much that light affects what we see in these QC picture.

Notice the LEDs look dimmer on the right shoe, but they won't be.

So I decided to re-dye my wear pair soles. I heated the dye in a pot and brought it to the boil on a small portable stove. The dye did something I have not seen before. It kind of separated forming a skin on the surface that looked like wax. After it cooled it seemed to go back into the dye.

I painted it on like the last time but wasn't sure if I was happy with the colour.

After the dye had cooled, I poured it back into the bottle and noticed that the boiling process made a sludge on the bottom of the pot. I then applied this to the soles and let it dry whilst I cleaned up the stove and things I used.

If I have to have blue soles, then I want them like this blue oval part.

And this is the result after washing off the sludge.

I didn't bother with the pyramid thread underneath as that is so yellow from ground in dirt, I doubt anything would make that clearish.

And a bit of a thought about the heating the dye Vs the use of SeaGlow and sunlight.

Based on what I have observed, heating the dye makes it bite into the rubber better than if it were applied cold.
I noticed that the dye left marks on the silicone work mat tonight and that is saying something as nothing sticks to silicone.

Anyway, based on the videos on Seaglow (those that do use it in the sun) and it is supposed to use UV from the sunlight to accelerate the chemical reaction. But in the end, doesn't the sunlight just heat up the rubber? Not sure in what conditions they paint the dye on though.

My method can be done at night when there is no sun.

Really! I'm very excited about wearing them out. I've been waiting for years until i can afford to get them. Will only wear them once in a while though as i won't want to get them dirty!
The more likely thing to be a problem is the lights breaking with wear (because of flexing at connections.) If you can find a good waterproofing spray for the cloth uppers, you'll be OK. They are stiff to begin with (most brand new shoes are) but become very comfy with time. The build seems solid and good quality. I scrub the dirt off the soles of mine with a toenail scrubber and dishwashing detergent, and wipe down the uppers with a damp cloth. I thought the same thing as you when I first ordered them, but ended up wearing them a lot (my GF even complained how much I wear them because of the people stopping us to ask me about the MAGs when we are out together, lol) - will be wearing them around the Royal Melbourne Show on this coming Sunday too. Then I'll be finally swapping out the soles with the super clear ones I got from WizardBTTF. Will update with pics here when done.

Thanks for all the detail there! I've heard a lot about the wires breaking etc. I'm totally new with getting these and it's nice to find out what things I can use with the cleaning and waterproofing.
I just hope they suit me. I've been meaning to buy a pair for years.
