Official V3 Nike MAG Replica Thread - V3 Discussion Thread

It has been said that it would be unwise to wear these new shoes. The chances of them breaking are too great.

And this is why I am sort not interested in owning a pair of these now. Unless you are doing a display where you can show the power lacing off, what is the point?

I'd rather hack a pair of normal V3s and get my magnetic lace system up and running. And yes, I think by the tests, I will be able to run in them without a fail.

maybe david learned from his mistakes?
i mean as for warranty, i doubt anyone would be willing to purchase replacements for a high price.

I am curious to see how David will handle replacements. Part of the whole "Limited release 300 pairs" will probably be an excuse to not offer replacements, or for a slight discount. Obviously I doubt these shoes are limited, just doing it to cover their ass and to build "hype"

These are just V3's with power laces, so they will have the same EL panel and battery V3 issues...and probably get their own new power lace issues.

You have nailed that one.

Also, where are the videos of the Chinese wearing these? In the lead up to the V3, we saw at least a dozen videos of someone (usually a lady) wearing the shared 2011 MAGs. So far, all we have seen is one shoe (the right shoe) and never on anyone's feet.

Might I suggest making the prototype 'magnetic lace system' in a pair of $20 Kmart shoes first? I mean, I would if I were doing it. They still sell mid-tops even if the design is nothing like the MAGs.

My work on this is "out of shoe" right now. Almost finished the new buckle. Magnetic strap idea works, but may need to be made from a thinner material. Right now I am using 1.9mm but I think 1.4mm might be better. Still nice and strong and would also work on the main 4 laces. The trick is the sleeve that the laces move through. Not sure what sub 1mm materials they make.

Question:
I buy a Adaptor/Sector 110V ==> 220V (coz i'am in france)
How long should I leave my shoes in charge to have a full battery ?
I hear 4/6Hrs right ?

The batteries have a protection circuit so you can probably leave them for longer. I'v run tests and seems even if I charge for 6 hours, I still only get 4 or 5 hours light time.

I buy an adapter for my shoes because, I am in France and our electric current is 220V.

When I put my shoes in recharge they light up well.
But when I leave them in recharge for 4hrs and I remove the shoes from the plug, they do not light up :(

The batteries remain empty, it makes no sense.

This is not normal ?

This cannot come either from the "Charger or Shoes", otherwise the shoes would not light up.
But how long does it take for them to recharge ?

How new are the shoes? Sounds like the batteries are dead already.

This can happen if you keep pressing the button on the shoe after they go out initially. What happens is that if you over draw, the protection circuit I mentioned kicks in and prevents the batteries taking on charge.

You can "jump start" them to get their minimum voltage up over the cutoff limit but it means cutting open the shoe to access the batteries. Then there is no guarantee that the battery will hold charge anyway.

This is what I went through with my wear pair. And after getting the lights up and running, I broke a wire and why I didn't bother fixing them after that.

When i buy shoes to David, shoes have a minimum battery, so light up working well.
Now, with time battery are depleted, so logic i want recharge them.
Now, why recharge battery don't working, no idea.

Or so i must keep light up shoes when they recharge hu...

No. Keeping the shoes lit negates the amount of charge. You are flattening the battery as fast as it charges.

I just noticed the other day that one of my shoes doesn't light up anymore on It's own. It lights up only when charging. Is this because the battery is completely dead? Is there any way to replace the battery or whatever the issue is for them to be fixed or repaired? I haven't even had them for that long and only wore them out about 4 or 5 times.

You need to cut open the inside of the sole. Cut along the side oposite the Swoosh so you don't cut wires.

Speaking of which, I just noticed this today. Notice how the battery on the left is swelled up? Not good and I guess this needs to be disposed of properly now.

The other battery seems ok and might even hold charge.

Here, I have documented how I opened my shoes to get the batteries out.

Step 1. Remove the sock liner.
Step 2. Plan your cut. I drew a pen line on mine.

Step 3. Carefully cut the fabric being careful not to cut any of the stitching that runs around the sole.

I made mine like a flap that can lift up and then be placed back down to cover the wires. The black square thing is EVA foam that I cut out to be the same size as the battery.

The wires are numbered and the connectors are tight. I found gripping the connector with long nose pliers on the shoe end made disconnection easier.

Good luck.

Hello,

Can someone can "Repair/Change" my battery of my shoes?
I can pay for repairs and battery.
And I'm not someone who knows about electronics.

Because I have to buy at "David" a pair of new shoes, I never charge them and apparently the battery are completely dead.
Abused :cry

Repair fees are probably going to cost more than the shoes themselves.

I'am in France and yes shoes are light up only when they are in plug.
If i disconnect shoes from plug, shoes became light off :(
I leave in charge 9hrs shoes and still light off :(
