OFFICIAL Hoverboard Progress Thread

Okay, first off...let this be the one and only thread for the Hoverboard project. As items are completed and available in the junkyard I'll post here as well as keeping everyone posted on progress and for questions to be answered and brainstorming to be done.

THAT SAID...

For everyone that ordered hologram for the board...

Good news bad news...

Good news:

The stuff was paid for last week

Bad news:

Got a call yesterday...it was supposed to be with UPS tracking info on the roll of hologram...it wasn't. Seems the companies quality control guy was unhappy with the quality of the print, there were "dye inconsistencies" SO, they have begun the process of printing up a fresh batch. Only problem is that it could be up to 10 days before the new batch is ready to ship.

Annoying yes, but I certainly appreciate them making sure we're getting the best possible product. So in a week and a half or so I'll be doing the happy dance just prior to posting that it is actually on its way here to me. Shipping tubes are preaddressed so as soon as I get it, I'll chop it up and it's on it's way.

In the mean time I've got a guy that's going to do the Mattel logos and hoverboard logos for the boards in vinyl (this is screen accurate) As soon as I have samples and a price I'll get them posted.

Work has also begun on the "attachments" for the underside of the board.

Stay tuned.

Thanks for the update, Patrick. It is indeed good news that we'll be getting the best possible product for our money.

Looking forward to seeing this progress. Thanks for heading this up, bud.

I'm in no rush at all, so a quality increase is only good news to me. Thanks for the update though; these are gonna look great when they're finished.

How many boards' worth of material would you say we'll each have?

A 10 foot length of the material is enough to do 2 boards...possibly a third...but 2 for sure. I did pay for some extra when I placed the order so I will have extra if anyone still wants in... $45.00 plus shipping for 10 feet of the hologram material.

PM me

Just sent Paypal payment. Probably cheaper than buying an electric saw to trim out a flourescent light cover.

At long last...I have a tracking number and the hologram is on it's way here.

Pictures as soon as it arrives.

Woohoo. Thanx for the update..

I was gonna make my board out of gatorboard but then I figured if I was gonna spring for this stuff might as well build it right. Think I'll be using MDF instead.

I wonder, has anyone ever done an outline drawing around a real "Marty" board?
Does anyone have a pattern?

Thanks B89.
Oh, you actually took these off of a real board? Excellent.
Perfect.

Oh this is gonna be good.

The hologram's here.....

Fresh off the UPS truck.

Between my wife and I, our schedules over the next week are a bit crazy so it may be a few days before I can actually get to the post office. I'm going to get this all cut up this weekend though so when the window to hit the post office opens up next week all I have to do is load the car and go. More parts and supplies for these boards are in the works so sit tight. And as I mentioned above I paid for extra so I now have Hoverboard pink hologram in stock to sell...get it while I've got it...once its gone it's gone.

PM for details or just search in the junkyard for the original sale thread.

Very cool. :) Great news.
You could always use it to line drawers :lol

(I'd love to actually use Obi handwheels in my bathroom)

Awesome Patrick. just so you know there's two guys over here in Tasmania, Australia that are going to be very happy LOL A mate is chipping in and sharing my material. So the next question is.what's the next run going to be? When are we doing the boards as a run? LOL

Warmest Regards & Thanks
Christian

Very cool... Thanks for the update.

That's a good question - has anyone considered doing a run of resin or fiberglass decks?

- D

Well we're going to be doing ours out of MDF. If the decks can be made in a reasonable time frame we plan on offering them here. We'll know on Tuesday which is when a few of us are getting together to start working on the decks and other parts.

The top photo is of a screen used board. Below that is some pink fur I bought a few years back that matched perfect. If you are interested in the fur I can sell 12”x 12” for $10 shipped.

The No tech board I own the original negative used in movie. The sleave it came in said it was printed at Color house in Burbank. I called and they are out of business. ItÂ’s an oversize negative so IÂ’m still looking for someone to print it. If there is any interest I might do a small run of these.
