So are we able to do anything about matty's awful website?
You are talking about Mattel the world's largest toy manufacture, if they were worried about the sites ordering ability they would deal with it... I'm of the option, since they have scripts that actually (supposedly) put you in a waiting line/cue that it's the way they want it... After all the demand is only for one day a month and it really doesn't effect their sales at all in the end, they still sell out just fine and the delays and ordering hassle actually all adds to the allure and hunt of 'collectible' items that the site is focused on... It slows down the ordering enough to spread out the sales just that much more...
Imagine the other scenario if their site could handle the load, lets go back to the old ticket scalper days before the Internet, where the scalpers strategically placed and paid people to sleep out at every Tickemaster or Ticketron location so they had the first one or two spots in line at every local outlet... And then you go back to their office where they had 10 phone lines and 10 temporary secretaries that day, in all essence when the flood gates opened the scalper had already locked in dibs on most if not all priority tickets...
Same would happen here (I'm sure it already is, but it would be worse) imagine if Scalper A was able to log in without issue and order his 10 per customer limit with 100% success every time... Imagine him having 10 family, friends or temp employees doing the same thing on his behalf to get around the 10 unit max, now imagine 100 scalpers doing this, BAM! 10s of thousands of units gone to 100 scalpers in the first second... There would only be table scraps left for the average collector...
The way it is now IMO actually adds purposeful delays for the collectors, yeah they are frustrating and yeah they aggravate the hell out of me, and yeah you sometimes lose out, but I can see more losing out in the above scenario if the servers did handle the load without hiccup...
I just see the PKE as being a nightmare to order when it happens, it's going to be a hot item, it's going to draw a lot of scalpers as well as a lot of collectors... I suspect A LOT of people will lose out on the chance to get one directly, and the luckey scalpers that do get through will make a payday from it...
But hey welcome to the collectors toy market, ever been to Target on an stocking day when they have exclusives? Seems like there is always that one 50 year old that is still living in moms basement pulling Gestapo like takeover moves in the toy isle as he ravages the Johnny Lighting and Hot Wheels display, all the while the other collectors duck and dodge his moves trying to snatch one for themselves...
