Official Ghostbusters PKE Meter Prop

I am at the edge of my seat because, limited or not, something with this type of demand will go fast and matty doesn't seem to do unlimited runs of anything.

And truth is, as has been said Matty's severs and ordering process is to say it blunt crappy, they are severely under equip to handle the release day load...

It took me 48 minutes of getting caught in their endless loop "server overload" page, to even get to the order page a few weeks back...

I do look forward to getting a few though...

I can't believe I missed this thread...as Gb is the one thing I adore the most. Course my internet access has been limited here, (I'm in china for a while)...but man I have got to get me one of those!

Anyone have a video link NOT YOUTUBE? youtube is blocked here in china, as well as facebook...I'm dying to see more of this.
Just to clarify the release IS THIS YEAR???

The only way to order one is online and hope you can get one before they sell out??
That sounds terrible. I know the scalpers will have thier way with it...sad, very sad.

Yep, that is the way Matty toys operates... They have a 10 item limit per customer, but scalpers still go hog wild, they start scalping on eBay with big markups as a pre-sale before the items even go on sale, as soon as Matty updates the item as 'sold out' they raise the prices even more...

It will be interesting to see how many they offer up and how long they last, most items they offer sell out in a few days maybe a week, but popular items can sell out in hours, and as I said their site can't handle the demand, it intentionally blocks you out an puts you into a waiting pool...

Sounds like a problem that should be addressed.
I can see how resellers would mark up the item a little, but sometimes it gets out of hand.

Just to get an idea...

The 12" Egon sold new for $60 last December, it's going regularly for over $300 on eBay now... The 12" Ray, and Peter now sell for $150 and up usually, and even the 12" Winston that just sold out last week on Matty is climbing rapidly...

Honestly and personally, I feel the PKE is going to have a higher draw and could be even worse unless they increase the run numbers substantially, bu that kind of goes against what they do...

I know, it's pretty ridiculous...still in need of the egon and venkman but at those prices forget it.

Agreed here frosty...issues at matty need to be addressed

Matty was billing the PKE meter as being on sale for "Holiday 2010" at SDCC but they just released their schedule of sale items through November, and no PKE. The only PKE meter through Nov. 15th is the one that will come with the 6" Egon Spengler in Lab Coat action figure.

Anything that buys us more time for them to address their hideous sales problems is a bonus, in my opinion.

Isn't the holiday december? Or am i missing something?

"Holiday" is a vague enough term to be taken as Thanksgiving through new years; that is what is meant by the "Holiday Season".

In the press release Mattel said they're also having a cyber monday sale (The monday after Thanksgiving on November 29th) and it will be "Big"....

I'm hoping for the PKE and only the PKE to be released that day... If it's also the day for any Masters re-releases the servers are definetely going down quickly and often.

Please Mattel if you're reading our threads plan a rerelease of the PKE very quickly (or offer your biggest number yet the first time) so we can all get a chance at having one affordably...

Sorry you folks misinterpreted my post. In keeping with the "Ghostbusters" theme of this thread, in the words of Hamilton Peck, "I'm not grotesquely stupid!" All I meant was to inform everyone that, so far as Mattel's release schedule through November 15th was concerned, the PKE prop replica was not on it. Mattel usually releases things on the 15th of the month, which means that, barring their Cyber Monday sale, about which we know nothing, if they sell the PKE on December 15, it's cutting things a little close for the Christian holiday. The next sale would be on January 15, by which time the holiday season is generally considered to have ended.

The unspoken implication was, in fact, that it would be on sale on either Cyber Monday or in December. Neither one bodes well because of Mattel's chronic server issues, but that's another post entirely.

And I do actually realize that November 15 in no way encompasses the entirety, or any portion, of the "holiday season." Although, I did misspeak (mistype?) the bit about it being Lab Coat Egon. He's coming later on, and that was my mistake. So maybe I AM grotesquely stupid. Thanks!

No one was insulting you, I hope you don't feel that way. So are we able to do anything about matty's awful website? I think I remember hearing that someone tried and that their customer service basically said there was nothing wrong.

Any way, even at scalper prices, I'm going to try to get one!

So are we able to do anything about matty's awful website?

You are talking about Mattel the world's largest toy manufacture, if they were worried about the sites ordering ability they would deal with it... I'm of the option, since they have scripts that actually (supposedly) put you in a waiting line/cue that it's the way they want it... After all the demand is only for one day a month and it really doesn't effect their sales at all in the end, they still sell out just fine and the delays and ordering hassle actually all adds to the allure and hunt of 'collectible' items that the site is focused on... It slows down the ordering enough to spread out the sales just that much more...

Imagine the other scenario if their site could handle the load, lets go back to the old ticket scalper days before the Internet, where the scalpers strategically placed and paid people to sleep out at every Tickemaster or Ticketron location so they had the first one or two spots in line at every local outlet... And then you go back to their office where they had 10 phone lines and 10 temporary secretaries that day, in all essence when the flood gates opened the scalper had already locked in dibs on most if not all priority tickets...

Same would happen here (I'm sure it already is, but it would be worse) imagine if Scalper A was able to log in without issue and order his 10 per customer limit with 100% success every time... Imagine him having 10 family, friends or temp employees doing the same thing on his behalf to get around the 10 unit max, now imagine 100 scalpers doing this, BAM! 10s of thousands of units gone to 100 scalpers in the first second... There would only be table scraps left for the average collector...

The way it is now IMO actually adds purposeful delays for the collectors, yeah they are frustrating and yeah they aggravate the hell out of me, and yeah you sometimes lose out, but I can see more losing out in the above scenario if the servers did handle the load without hiccup...

I just see the PKE as being a nightmare to order when it happens, it's going to be a hot item, it's going to draw a lot of scalpers as well as a lot of collectors... I suspect A LOT of people will lose out on the chance to get one directly, and the luckey scalpers that do get through will make a payday from it...

But hey welcome to the collectors toy market, ever been to Target on an stocking day when they have exclusives? Seems like there is always that one 50 year old that is still living in moms basement pulling Gestapo like takeover moves in the toy isle as he ravages the Johnny Lighting and Hot Wheels display, all the while the other collectors duck and dodge his moves trying to snatch one for themselves...

Well then, I guess you've solved it, no other options and no way to improve the system. I guess we'll just feel like lucky collectors when we go on and get locked out.
