Official Ghostbusters PKE Meter Prop

Well, i bought an internet patch, that allows me access to facebook, and youtube here.
I must say, after watching the video I am impressed! Got to get one!

Over on matty site they said if this sell well they might do other props. I really want one but I really hate ordering off there site.

I really don't see Mattel doing the Proton Pack. Sorry, but I don't. The Trap, Goggles...maybe. But not the Proton Pack. That PKE is bloody close to the real deal, a 'toy' Proton Pack that is as close to the real deal as the PKE is, will cost a lot of money to get right, and would probably retail for a good couple of hundred dollars. True that's cheaper than building one.

But then they run into the same issues MR had.

1) If they issue it with straps/ALICE frame, it's wearable out of the box. If it's wearable, it's a COSTUME accessory, and then that infringes on Rubies' licence (I wonder why Rubies haven't yet come up with a 'deluxe' Proton Pack to replace the inflatable one that comes with the costume?). In all likelihood, Mattel would have to issue a Proton Pack with no straps or frame but leave it open for those things to be added, like MR would have.

2) Reaction from GB prop builders. I checked out the reaction to MR's announcement that they would do GB props and to me, it seemed mostly negative. Mattel have lucked out on the PKE because it's not as widely built by people due to cost, so much money for such a little piece...but the Proton Pack is the core bit which people don't mind paying a lot to make. So you're bound to get a level of negative reaction similar to when MR said they would do a Proton Pack. You'll get the concern over legal ramifications for people who make and sell parts (it's a livelihood for some people, and the reaction over the MR proposals suggests some of them think they have an automatic entitlement to that livelihood), and you'll get the people who have strived hard to build an accurate pack and who will feel like their work is undermined by an 'OFFICIALLY LICENCED REPLICA'.

I agree. We'll see a trap, maybe goggles. No proton pack. Much too big and expensive, and it is more of a costume piece than a prop. They might as well make the jumpsuits as well if they were going to do the pack.

i was pretty excited about it too. alot of people werent. i cant even begin to understand why. then again, about 85 percent of the gb fanbase has devolved into whiners unhappy with anything ghostbusters related and more than happy to criticize it.

i remember in 1999 when there was NOTHING and now they're bunching panties over a hotwheels car not being super 100 percent detailed accurate.

a ****ing hotwheels car...common sense says at the scale, IT WONT BE. but there's not alot of that floating around the gb fanbase anyway.

I'm sorry, are you new to fandom? ;)

Been a fan of many things over the years, mostly Trek. All fans seem to devolve into that eventually.

Thinking about it some more, I could see them doing the RGB pack; it'd be a mite smaller than the movie one and 'accurate to the cartoon' would be a lot easier to pull off than 'accurate to the movie'...and if Rubies' costume licence is only for 'Ghostbusters' as in the movie, and it doesn't cover RGB, then Mattel could make an RGB pack wearable straight from the box.

No, I don't see much of a future for movie gear from Mattel, but I could see them doing plenty of RGB stuff. Could be that the PKE might be a one-off movie prop which they made exclusive to MattyCollector to mark their first GB roleplay item and to go with the movie stuff, and then any RGB gear will be available in TRU as well as MattyCollector, same as the Cloth Retro Figures

I've got my buddy for ordering day. Our plan is that if we each come out with two, we'll sell them on the Junkyard at regular price.

I think a buddy system would be a GREAT idea!
I myself would love to have one of these but also share the fear with others that the ordering system and the blood-sucking scalpers will put an end to that.
I just want one for myself -not looking to buy a ton and resell them for outrageous prices.

It would be funny if they really didn't limit the production on these, and we all end up with too many, though that is unlikely.

When is ordering day? My son just got into GB (finally) and he would love this for our collection.

We don't know yet. Mattel announced their schedule through November 15th, and the PKE meter is not on it. Since they were promoting it as being available "Holiday 2010" at San Diego Comic-Con, we are hoping to see it on either December 15th (Matty.com sale day is always the 15th of the month, or the Monday after if the 15th falls on a weekend) OR on "Cyber Monday", the Monday following US Thanksgiving. They have announced that they will be doing something "special" on Cyber Monday but have not given any additional information.

gbfans.com has an interview with mattel about this and they have assured people they are taking into account the demand from fans and general interest people alike to make sure everyone who wants one can get one...whatever that means.

lol..it means jack squat. i dont collect the figures, this is the only thing so far the line has that has interested me, and from my understanding the figures have been stupid difficult to collect.

Probably one of the few things you and I agree upon...

They 'might' be increasing the run number a little to compensate for demand, but I doubt it will actually satisfy the demand, it goes against the whole Matty 'Collectible' idea of collectible if there is no shortage created from the run...

Just browse their site, everything is 'Sold Out', and it generally happens within the first day or only a few days later... The GB line has been no different...

Since I have experienced the shortage first hand, and right now it's only a casual search if anyone has an extra 12" Egon Spengler, in the box (both boxes) they want to get rid for a TRADE only, drop me a PM... And don't get silly with any offers, I'll be generous with a trade but not stupid silly :)

Their statement, not having had any previous dealings with them, does at least sound encouraging. Maybe they'll do something like have 2-per-customer pre-order?

The statement sounds good considering their last GB release was available for over a week.
